I looked into my crystal ball recently and finally saw new cylinder heads in the future, but cant decide which to buy, pro's and cons to both! Lemme know what you guys think and or your experience with either, thanks!

Hey look, a subject that hasn't been beaten to death! View attachment 516627

j/k

Anyway, both AFR and Trick Flow make good heads. Personally, I'm leaning towards the AFRs because AFR CNC machines the ports on all of their heads (which would make them very similar and consistent) where Trick Flow sends you heads that are just "as-cast".

I wonder how long its gonna take this thread to turn into a 5+ page flame fest

Both will work good on a stock bottom end 302. What are your goals? Where do you want your car to be in the future?

With that being said, I really haven't seen an afr 165 head do anything that a TW head hasn't done already. The cam choice is very critical if your looking for big power.

With that being said, I would choose a cheaper TW head over an afr 165. Nothing afr touches my car but thats all personal preference.

Don't rule out newer revised edlebrock heads either. My friend runs them on his 306 and made 323rwhp with junk shorty headers and all off the shelf stuff. He now switched to longtubes but his car has problems that need to be fixed.

Just got my car running with Twisted wedge heads! The car has great power! I am sure you would love either head. It's pretty much a toss up from what i have heard.

Vice versa...

Anyways...I picked AFR heads for their longer standing rep (no "valvetrain" problems in the past as opposed to TW's)...

I am very happy with them...and wouldn't hesitate to put them on the car again.

Nothing TW touches my car (even though it is cheaper)

Friend's car put down 342rwhp with a custom .540 lift approx. cam, afr165's, rpmII intake and full exhaust. Also ran 12.3 @111 I believe.

I know I'm going with AFR165s in 3 weeks! I can't wait to drop like 50+ lbs off the front end and flow so much more horse and finally put my cam and rockers to good use.

When you do install the AFR's refresh this thread with your results! After putting them on my car I'd never look at another set of heads again, outstanding!

Does anybody know if AFR charges more to have the heads milled for more compression(I'm aiming for 10:1-10.5:1)? Any details about why the TW's have tricky valvetrains (or so I have heard)? I'll search the other threads too...
