I'm no expert but buying thicker head gaskets to reduce compression could produce
undesirable quench numbers.
Not sure how concerned the op is about that but when I built my stroker I had no idea and
got some advise from some knowledgeable forum members.

Quench is not desirable for a boosted application due to the heat build up the quench area which leads to detonation. In a efficient NA motor it is desirable but if you don't get there it only means less timing or more octane and giving up a little power.

There is some swirl effects that also happen in a quench that benefit a NA, while a boosted with a pressured intake has better swirl effects due to the differential of the intake pressure and combustion chamber pressure which is the reason it does not see a benefit from quench.

Agreed, buying a thicker head gasket is a bandaid for not running the right CC head in the first place.
