Hey all. I pulled my heads off of my 1993 notch and I wanted to install a set of AFR 185cc heads. I currently have an E-cam installed. I don't want to use the 165cc heads because I will be going with a 331 next year.

I was told by AFR that you can't run these heads on stock pistons. Edelbrock said the same about their RPM's with the 2.02 valves and I know a few guys that have the 2.02 valves with stock pistons. AFR/Muscle Mustangs have a couple of articles where they ran the 185s on stock block with a huge 282 Comp cam.

Anyone have any experience running the 185's on a stock block?

Everything thing that I have read says the valves will more than likely hit. Stock pistons will have to fly cut as they are only notched for 1.94 and I do not know the exhaust side, but I would guess 1.54. That is because X303 heads are a bolt on from ford racing.

That's what I mostly read from head manufacturers but Edelbrock said the same thing yet it's been done before. Edelbrock even told me that I could not run the 2.02 valves on my 351 with dished pistons. Powered by Ford in Florida told me that I could run Vic Jrs. I guess the manufacturers are being conservative and playing it safe. That way, if you hit a valve and screw it up they are not responsible.
