afr 185s or ported e7s?

ported E7's can work well.
I see far too many folks running low 13's on ported stock heads, and, guess what, there are a tonne of folks running high 12's on bone stock heads. I have bone stock heads/cam/intake in a full weight fox and run 84mph in the 1/8th.
What's that tell me? A lot of folks porting stock heads are doing so in such a manner as to get minimal to no gains.

If money is tight, just run stock heads for now.
Unless you have some deep desire for the car to look stock, which carb'd ain't gonna be, or, some deep quest to run hard on stock heads, there is no reason to hinder the potential of a built motor.

BTW, this is all coming from someone who will be running ported E7's.

The ported E7, cast iron Gt-40 or GT-40p will hold the stroker back from making the power you are looking forward to. A Fully ported set of GT-40's would fare OK but unless you can find a pair cheap I wouldn't put a lot of money out for them.

Personally if you do not need it running right now, I would wait for the AFR185's stock heads aren't worth putting money into IMO...they will still be a bottle neck on the combo you are building.

I had one of the stock H/C/I 12 sec cars.

no i dont have to have the car running anytime soon....i just want to drive it really bad lol.........i guess i can wait a couple months and save for the afrs. I just dont want to be dissappointed in the performance of my 331

My vote goes to AFR 185s. If you're on a budget, go GT40s until you've got enough money for 185s. Have you considered taking out a loan for the 185s?, or do you have loans taken out already for college?

have scholarship(s) for college.....i dont really want to take out a loan for something like car parts honestly... i could just throw them on one of my 0% apr credit cards but i dont like owing money on something so insignificant

Modular, why not just throw the E7's on as is until you can pick up some better heads down the road? This way you can drive it. Afr 185's with a spring upgrade are around $1500 so its a decent chunk of change to save for. Might as well just save up $1700 and buy some afr 205's :D

i have already done this...but it was on speed density...the car ran like hell lol...i have everything i need for the carb swap but the intake....i really dont want to have to tear the motor apart again.....what are the springs on the afr 185s rated at? will they accept the factory pedestal style valvetrain? my cam is only .500 lift
