afr gauge

im thinking about getting a afr gauge, and a trans temp gauge for my ride. the afr gauge isnt really gonna serve a pourpose since it is a na car, but i always wanted one so im getting one. im gonna put them in my clock area.
anyways, how do you hook one up? i know you tap them into the o2 sensor harness, but is there any addapter thing i could get?

Get a wideband O2 gauge if you have the $$, it's functional.

You DON'T tap into the O2 it self: Here's where you run the wire to at the computer behind the passenger side kick panel. Either one of these will work:

Pin number 87 at PCM, red w/black stripe or Pin number 60, gray w/light blue stripe

That's why I wrote ".....if you have the $$", and for over $500 you would get a datalogger as well, not just a gauge.

A autometer lunar narrowband A/F gauge runs over $100 and is of no use whatsoever for tuning. Over $500 for a useful gauge or over $100 for a gauge of little practical use, your choice.

get a more useful gauge like oil pressure.

Yes a more useful guage is what I was saying. Forget about a/f and go for oil pressure, oil temp, tranny fluid temp (if auto) or something like that. You will get accurate a/f readings only at the dyno and that is the only time you really need them anyway.

Actually I get very accurate A/F readings with the wideband I have semi-permanently installed, which match the dyno figures very well. I agree with you though, oil pressure or water temp (assuming they are not already there) would be among the best choices.

Sigh... trying to communicate with you is difficult my friend.

What I meant by "only at the dyno" is that MOST OFTEN that is the only place one will encounter a wide band a/f guage as they are so expensive. AND that it is most useful there because you could also be getting a tune as well.

I have no idea how you read that as my casting apsersions on the accuracy of yours or any one else's wideband O2 sensor...

you guys crack me up! i just kinda wanted one just for the "cool" factor i guess. i suppose itd be sweeter to get some gauges that no one reallr see's tho. maby ill get a rear end temp gauge, and place it next to my trans temp gauge. you think thatd be alright, and origonal?

That's what is good about these forums, you can get several opinions. One opinion is just as good as another, and you can sometimes find something recommended that you might not have thought about or knew about. I have for sure.

Depends on what you get. My PLX was right around $300. Pricey still but worth every penny if you are running a power adder.

any mod that is just for looks and not functional should be avoided IMO.

the narrow band o2's are a waste. you may as well just buy some led that watch for $10.

If you are not boosted/nos I would would not bother with the the 02 gauge. If you ever run those it may be worth the expense for a wideband gauge.
