Hey everyone, I am collecting all the parts for my HCI. I have the heads and intake. Im having trouble with the Valve covers though. I have Ford Racing 1.7 rr and I have heard the stock covers will not fit over them.

I have been looking at these covers http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=M6582E302R+01

They look the best to me, I just dont know about the spacer problem. I have an edelbrock performer rpm that came with a 3/8 spacer. Problem is Im using my stock hood....

I am just trying to see what people have done for covers and spacers or if they have a similar set up as me what kind of spacer they used. Thanks.

I would rather not have to try and sell these and buy new ones though. My valve covers are pretty nasty looking with rust and I would not mind buying them if they will work and look good too. I will have to keep that in mind though thank you.

You think that they will fit the ford racing ones? They seem pretty huge lol.
They are these ones http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=FMS-M-6564-A50&autoview=sku

I would have picked different but I got a deal on them with the heads.

www.andersonfordmotorsport.com They have a set of chrome VC's for @$80 and they are taller than stock and shorter than the tall's. They fit over my comp pro rockers and under my cobra intake. Everybody that I've talked to who has them loves them. just my .02

If those are the same rockers that come on a 94-95 Cobra ...........
You can run them under the oem vc's

The Edel intakes allow just a bit more room between the bottom of the upper
and vc's than oem Cobra and TFS intakes. Because of that ... I'd bet you will
need no spacer of any kind.

Look at my sig and you'll see I got similar stuff to yours and I run
no spacer

I ran Fox vc's with my STUD Scorpion rr's and those things are huge

If you want all the details

Use my screen name with keyword ... filler ... in the 94-95 tech forum

I would agree with Grady. Also, I have a 3/8" spacer with my BBK VC which are definitely taller than stock to clear the stud mount RRs. They seem to be about the same as those ones you reference. Can you get the measurement for those VCs that way I can compare to my BBKs. With the BBK VCs I can clear the EGR valve without the spacer - have about 1/8" to 1/4". So I don't think you would need a spacer if the measurements are the same.

Also, the oil fill hole for those Ford VCs will now be to the back - correct. Will the EGR interfere with that - just curious.

Keep the post updated. I am interested in the Ford VCs too but the black ones that has "Cobra Powered by Ford"

Let me know about the measurements.

Those Motorsport ones will have trouble fitting under a stock height intake, you are going to have to run some spacers. I've seen SNs with Trick Flow Valve Covers. I just ordered some off Ebay, I'll let you know how they work. I'm using Dove roller rockers, 1.6s, and up until this point I've been using Moroso stamped valve covers, which suck. I don't like stamped valve covers, and I had to put two 3/8" spacers. I'm hoping I can take at least one out with the Trick Flows. I don't mind if I have to do some interal mods to the valve covers. I know stock 93' Valve Covers will fit if you clearance the baffle. Unfortunately they won't clear the alternator on an SN. That's the other thing you have to be careful about, alternator clearance.

When using the Fox VC's you may or may not have issues with the alt

If so ... you basically have three options

1) Grind away some of the electrical bolt

2) Grind away some of the VC

3) Use one of those very thin (about .065 thick) washers on each alt
mounting bolt to shim the alt forward by that amount.

I used 3# several years ago and all has been fine since then

On my car it was the alternator itself that rubbed on the valve cover. If you shim the alternator bracket, you have to shim the other side as well as the crank pulley.

I didn't have that much of a clearance issue myself

I did give the info about the small amount of distance that the alt was moved
and I stated the fact I did that years ago with the intent to show no belt alignment issues have cropped up since then

I do see your concern here and if I had needed more room than that I most
likely would have not used this method.

I mean ... sixty five thousandths of an inch ... It ain't a whole lot

Never the less ....

I can only say it worked for me

No, I guess that isn't enough distance to matter.

I almost got the trickflow ones used from a guy. Im glad I didnt though. The thing that bothers me is that im not going to have a trickflow cam, heads, or intake so the valve covers would bother me.

I kinda mocked up my heads and intake together I know its not perfect but it sits flat and with measuring I should have about 1.75 inches left between the bottom of where the throttle body goes and where the valve cover would be sitting. However, I am going to be running the intake elbow. I know that it curves down, i just dont know how much.

Does anyone know off hand, or can measure for me how far the intake elbows curve downward?

I know I saw those, I was just wondering if anyone had any better pics of them on the car from the side or something.
