afr185 on 408w?331 with gt40's

Okay this is a 2 part question make it plain and simple ive got a set of afr185 58cc.That are suppose to go on my 331 short block.But im thinking i want to throw them on a motor that isnt gonna split around 500hp.So was wondering has anyone ran that head on a 351w?I know its prolly a lil small for that cubic inch.Let alone a 408w but just wanted to see if i could save my self a few extra bux later on down the road from spliting a motor and doing it right.

2nd part

gt40 heads on a 331 n/a power limits i know the heads are going to choke it but how bad anyone ever build a 331 with gt40 heads?

if your staying N/A on the 331 you will have to work hard to crack the block.

putting 185's on a 408 would definitly not be "doing it right" Personally, if i built a 408, i wouldnt use anything under a 225cc head.

Put the 185's on the 331 and as long as your not going to spray it or throw boost at it you will be fine

Why? Not enough flow? Or the block will crack?

the heads flow plenty, not sure if anyones ever mentioned this before, but stock blocks crack anywhere from 450rwhp to 600rwhp depending on a few key factors. 185's on a 331 should make an honest 360 rwhp all day long.

Just build an 11:1, 331. If you get bored with that, throw a 150 shot on it

Agreeing with others here. The 185's are better matched to the 331. All you add going to the 408 is block and rotating assembly weight. The 331 will be faster with the same heads.

What's worse is the 185's are already maxed out, and have little or no more porting opportunity. Now, go canfield 195 or TW 170 (same size as a 185) have much more room for porting down the road when you realize the heads are way to small for a 408.

Yeah im just gonna leave the afr's with the 331 in the mustang just a nice n/a motor and maybe spray.Then ill just have a lil fun this year witht eh 302 in the lincoln when i boost it.Then a 408w next year with some actual heads.

thats a good plan, and hey, if you shoot for that 800rwhp stock block, make sure the video cameras rolling

Yeah set up on a tripod and im 200feet away lol.
