Aftermarket fuel pump for stock 2.3L, future upgrades coming?

Hey all,

I need to replace the fuel pump in my '93 notch, with a 2.3L engine. I would LIKE to upgrade to something that will be useable with future upgrades. I plan on attacking the suspension first, but I will have a stroked 302 (331 or 347, only looking for 450-500HP to the wheels in the end) in there eventually. Can I buy a decent aftermarket upgrade now, and not have to upgrade later...or do I need to pay the money for a stock replacement now, and spend more money later to upgrade?

If I can just upgrade now and get it out of the way, any suggestions as to what I should look for or what I need?

Any help is appreciated. I'm having a blast fixing up this car, just want to make sure I make the right purchases initially to prevent wasteful spending or repeat-spending later on.

I would like info on this. I have a 87 Turbo coupe motor lined up. I have a local Mustang shop which will install a Holley Red something 190lph pump for $200. Will that be good for a 300-350hp turbo 2.3L?

Both of you, a Walbro (or holley) 255lph High pressure pump will do everything you are asking for and you can install them now without issue. They are only about 95 bux on ebay. The 190lph mentioned is the same price so don't bother with it...go to the 255lph HP.

I ran a 255lph high pressure pump (Walbro GSS340) on a stock 2.3 for six months or more without issue.

Haha, I'll tone it down a notch.

I've found two units, inline and intank. I know mine is intank. Does it matter which I go with? I'm assuming the inline is OUTSIDE the fuel tank, which I would THINK would be more convenient to deal with.

Are there any specific questions I should ask the seller? The inline is brand new, the intank is in excellent condition. Besides the pump, additional mounting hardware/brackets/lines I might need to purchase if they're not included with what he's selling me?

Appreciate the help, I'm obviously new to working on and modifying vehicles. I'm really enjoying wrenching on this thing though, I'm learning a ton with each new fix/replacement.

Yeah it matters which one you go with...you'll have to make some new fuel lines to hook up the inline one. Just get the in-tank pump. Regardless of which one you get, you'd have to drop the tank anyway.

I was gonna be lazy and do what a editor in MM&FF did (Mark Houlahan?). He cut a hole in the trunk floor around the fuel pump just big enough so that he could change the fuel pump without having to drop the tank. He put a gasket between tank and trunk floor to seal it.

I thought about doing that, and putting a little access door in there, but I don't know.
