i just put an aftermarket temp gauge in my car. its mechanical. i put it in place of the temerature sending unit in the front driver side of the intake and now i cant adjust my idle and my car stays idling high. what should i do

Sounds like you may of removed the wrong one. Although sounds like you have the right location.
You had to use a fitting adapter to get it to fit, right?

it had 2 wires... so im guessing it wasnt just for the sensor but for the computer too.. if this is the case where should i hook the gauge into?
You removed the ACT (air charge temperature sensor) that the computer uses for intake air temperature. That will definitely cause problems with the computer.

The water temp sender has one wire with a slip on screw stud connector. It is located in the same general area.

All the autometer water temp Tstats i've seen, need an enlarger fitting (or something similar, i can't remember why it was on them, but i know it was. Because the hole goes in is either not deep or is too large.
Not sure if they changed the design.
