Aftermarket hoods getting better?

One reason I have not gotten an aftermarket hood is because a lot of people have said you need hood pins, especially if you go to the drag strip or drive on the highway. That was the story 3-5 years ago when I was looking and I was wondering if things had changed at all? I notice a ton more of you guys with 99-04 cars seem to have hoods now that did not used to.

Any buying advice or safety advice?

at the track after i get over 100mph it accually starts to flutter in the center but nothing has ever happened to it......

I am worried because the last thing i need is to have a hood fly up and destroy my windshield or cause damage to another car, those are my primary concerns because I know how ticked i would be if someones hood hit me!

im running a CF 95 cobra r hood...no hood pins....

took a 10 hour road trip with the hood all i got was a little bit of hood shake around 90mph... other than that, perfectly still and ran around 80 the whole time...so as of yet, no hood fly up...just make sure the hood latch area is reinforced...

i figure a 10 hour road trip was a great test for the hood and it passed!

if anything, tape your front end up if you go on a road trip/to the track and run the tape from fender to fender across your hood...problem solved :nice:

Even Paris wouldn't say "That's Hot!"

Seriously, I have a CF cowl hood (and a CF Mach 1 hood before this one) and while I "should" pin them with the FRPP kit I've had for 3 years, I couldn't be bothered. The only reason is fitment. My hoods both have needed some TLC with the fender placement to get a clean look. I know it's part of an aftermarket setup, but I'm scared to pin one hood and replace it with another and have the pins not 100% centered. Knock on wood I've been ok for 50k +miles without the pins installed. I want to install them, I can weld, I have a welder, I just worry I'll do it and the hood will crack and I'll need a new hood that wont line up the same (blah blah blah)... Just ebcause I've been lucky though, IMO if you can pin it and it's not stock... do it! Seriously if my hood flew up at the track and I killed some ones parent in the other lane I'd probably kill myself afterwards knowing I own the pins and didn't install them.

i just don't know why you would take the risk. I've had my hood fly up on me and its SCARY! on my old 91 i forgot to pin the hood down and 10 mins later the thing flew up and not only did it destroy the hood but it put a big dent above the front window on the roof....its a disaster waiting to happen...

matador91, thats one of the hottest Foxes I have ever seen! love the color, love the hood, and I am really leaning towards a Cervini hood. The fit and finish of their hoods seem to be far and above the rest on a CONSISTENT basis.
