I know its normal for an aftermarket shifter to be noisy compared to factory...but can someone describe the type of noise? I have a pretty new MGW on mine...and can hear a whining type noise. Seems to increase with higher RPM's and if I put my hand on the shifter, it changes pitch. Its definetely from the new shifter. So is this noise normal or did I do something wrong on install?

Well I left the stops out per MGW's and Tremec's recommendations since they say the 3650 has internal stops. I couldn't imagine how I screwed up an easy install like that, but wanted to consult:SNSign:

I noticed some more noise from the MGW as well. Luckily, the MGW is supposed to be quieter than most others....

Get some exhaust work done and you will barely hear it. I have Borlas Pro XS mufflers and a catted MRT H and I don't hear the tranny noise much.

I get a slight tapping sound on mine. The Pro50 I had before this sounded like a loud valve tap. Call George at MGW if you have any questions.
He'll gladly answer them.Enjoy your shifter.I'm enjoying mine.

I don't mind the noise really...with my busted cat rattling i'm used to odd noises. Just wanted to make sure that was the noise everyone talks about. Might pick up a gasket, then put it on when I go to change the tranny fluid down the road sometime. I'm itching for my cat-back...just waiting to pay off the credit cards first.

woah I've had that same sound for the past year or so with my MGW and I was worrying that it was something with the motor... so the shifter itself causes that sound? weird!

one of the cat sheild welds probably broke off, usually happens when it get knocked around

Well the dealer agreed to put on a whole new mid-pipe...but supposedly its been backordered now for 2 1/2 months

Actually on the phone with Ford themselves to discuss this...just give me an aftermarket mid-pipe and I'll be cool!

I've had my MGW for almost 1 year and it's never made a peep.

Maybe its all about the seal between shifter and tranny...although I used a bunch of RTV. Not much noise, but just a whine that's noticeable, esp at high rpms. Maybe my exhaust is just too quiet!

No increased noise with my MGW. Actually probably quieter than stock. If you put the RTV on correctly, it's just as quiet as stock, no gasket required.

Hmmm....so what are you trying to say, maybe we like the noise...maybe the noise is a good thing, actually, I think I got at least 2 rwhp from the increased noise. Unless its the fuzzy dice I hung from the mirror.

And.....neither Ford nor the dealer were interested in giving me the money or swapping it for an aftermarket part. Ford actually confirmed the backorder on the cats. Asked if the car was driveable. I said yes, but what would you do if it wasn't and was waiting 3 months for a part...would I get a loaner...and the woman said I'd have to deal with the dealer. I told her the dealer and Ford were both very lucky the car still runs. :bs:
