getting ready to do a motor for my car and im a little concerned about my factory strut tower brace with a aftermarket intake. i know alot of guys just take it off and leave it off but i really had rather replace it. nothing is set in stone yet but i will prob be running a trickflow intake (street heat or track heat). im pretty sure it would clip the factory brace anyway, but with the taller valve covers , a spacer and a different intake im almost positive i will have a problem.

seems like i seen a guy have a BBK st brace? im sure there are several to choose from, just need a little guidance here. prices and links would be helpful too.

thanks

BBK seems to be the most popular. You WILL hit the factory with that intake setup. Try 50resto.com, or summitracing.com (not sure on prices).

preciate it man. o by the way, are you pretty happy with that tfs stage 1 cam? ive heard a stage 1 with 1.7 rockers ,which i think tamed the sound down a little. still sounded really good tho. are you runnin' 1.6 rockers? if so, how lopey is it?

so on a aftermarket stb, does the intake "go thru" the middle of the stb (bigger opening) or is it just angled differently so the brace is just taller?

Let's get some pictures of my BBK Gripp Series STB up...

This STB seems to be about the same height as my stocker, but it's on an angle, giving more room for height on the driver side of the engine bay than the passenger side, but still a solid 2 inches on the passenger side to boot. If you're going to increase clearance by 2 inches, then you'd have a problem, but if not, you're good to go

When I bought my car it had the GT40 intake on it and a strut tower bar that cleared it.. I might possibly be selling it if interested..

i need to find out the specs of a gt40 to a trickflow (size wise)....i might be interested....

i had a trick flow upper/lower on mine before the kenne-bell. i also had a steeda stb. i loved it and wish i could still use it, but it doesn't clear the nose of the kb, so i had to take it off. i'd sell it for $50 plus shipping if you are interested. pm me if interested.

I agree urban, but how much further does the stock manifold differ from from a GT40 intake? Anyone have any distinct measurements? I'm not sure exactly how much bigger my BBK strut tower brace is compared to my stock peice, but it doesn't look like much

I love this cam! It's pretty lopey. I am running split ratio rockers (1.7 on the intake, 1.6 on the exhaust). The rockers don't make a difference for the lope (lift matters not really). It's the lobe seperation angle that matters (LSA). The lower the LSA, the more lope. I'm gonna try and get my mom's digital camera this weekend and get a sound/video clip now that I have my electrical issues squared away. I'll try and remember to send you a link when I do.

Here's some more pics that might show some more clearance, don't mind the dirty engine bay

The original poster mentioned using a spacer. What size spacer do you plan to use (that will affect your decision on brace). I have the same issue. I have the Edelbrock intake with 3/8" spacer, taller valve covers and the Cobra R hood. The stock brace won't fit. I talked to a rep at Maximum Motorsport and he suggested that I may need to get the strut tower brace used for the 351 engine because it is taller. You may want to give them a call. From what I've noticed with my brace clearing the intake isn't the problem - the problem is clearing the TB.

For those that replied - are any of you using an intake spacer and taller valve covers. If yes, then the braces you suggest are probably ok. If no then I don't think those braces will help the poster.

Oh by the way, if you put on an intake spacer, you may need a new hood too?

Peace
Al
