Well...it seems its been over 15 years since I posted last. Going to start working on the 67 again. First step is tires as the ones on it are terrifyingly old...maybe 20 years now. But along with that my rims are shot. I bought them from NPD about 20 years ago and they rusted in just over a year. I dont know what brand they were. *maybe scott drake*. I see other mentions of scott drake styled steel rims rusting too. So it seems it wasnt just me. Is there another company making 97 SS 15x7 rims out there thats not scott drake?

Thanks!

I have not, thanks! Looks like what I am looking for. But now Im finding issues with replacement tires in the sizes that I shoehorned/fitted. Front tires are 225/50r15s. rears 265/50r15. Had BF goodrich TAs 20 years ago. It seems that not only does Bf goodrich no longer make these sizes, it looks like no one makes both sizes so I would have to have one brand on the back and one on the front. So then do I upgrade to a 16x8 rim....but then what size tires will fit under the front fenders? And will I have any other fitment issues. LOL, this is getting way more complicated than I originally expected!

Try these, they should be about equal in wear and performance:

1. Kumho Ecsta AST KU25 (225/50R15):

  • Size: 225/50R15 91H
  • Type: All-Season Performance
  • Availability: Available on Amazon
  • Link: Kumho Ecsta AST KU25 All-Season Tire - 225/50R15 91H
2. Hankook Kinergy ST H735 (265/50R15):

  • Size: 265/50R15 99T
  • Type: Standard Touring All-Season
  • Availability: Available on Tire Rack
  • Link: Hankook Kinergy ST H735 265/50R15

These are both H rated tires:

1. Kumho Ecsta AST KU25 (225/50R15 91H):

  • Size: 225/50R15
  • Speed Rating: H (up to 130 mph)
  • Type: All-Season Performance
  • Availability: Available on Amazon
  • Link: Kumho Ecsta AST KU25 All-Season Tire - 225/50R15 91H
2. Vitour Galaxy R1 G/T (265/50R15 99H):

  • Size: 265/50R15
  • Speed Rating: H (up to 130 mph)
  • Type: All-Season Performance
  • Availability: Available on Performance Plus Tire
  • Link: Vitour Galaxy R1 G/T Passenger All Season Tire

Not sure which of those rears will be "grippier" but I also don't know if that's a consideration for you.

Let us know how it turns out and....

I was hoping to not have different brands front and rear, but it looks like that will be the way to go in the short term. Grip would be nice. This car was my daily driver for 11 years, but no more. I probably wouldnt wear out even a set of soft tires. Right now the main consideration is "can I do a test drive around the block".

Got her started this weekend without too much fighting. Starting to put together my laundry list in my head.
