My brakes are acting rather strange lately. They used to be really stiff (i have manual brakes) but suddenly they have been getting really really loose. I can hardly stop with them. What ever could the problem be? Its a '66 Coupe 289 2V, manual brakes, power steering, etc.

probably have air in the lines, try bleeding them. Also check brake fluid level first.

Check the adjustment on the rear brakes. If they're drum, the adjusters may not be taking up the slack as the shoes wear which causes a soft feel to the pedal and longer pedal travel.
