Air and Fuel

this may be a stupid question but, when i was having fuel problems abuot month ago, we started adjusting the carb. well EVERY adjustment that could be made,was. including the air and fuel mixture. now im thinking, this has made my power drop. is there anyway to know where it needs to be? i heard that this should not be moved from factory but im coming here to find out.

its a 4160 holley. 600 cfm vac secondaries.

How did you adjust the air/fuel mixture? Sounds like you need the shop manual to get everything back to "default" and start over again. Too high a float level would make it run richer. A jet size too big would do the same. Sticking secondaries (not uncommon) would cause it to "high idle." A leaky power valve would do the same.

where does the mixture need to be set at?

Idle air mixture is set using the 2 screws under the front fuel bowl. Air/Fuel ratio above idle is a function of throttle bore and jetting. Get an air/fuel meter if you want it more precise. Idle mixture screws should be a maximumof 1 1/2 turns out from a LIGHT seating.
