Same problem here. Starts flashing, then stays on. Happened out of nowhere one day.

do a search this comes up every couple of weeks.. but I can tell you what I know anyway..

#1 count the flashes when you start the car. this will tell you what is wrong.
#2. depending on if it is a hard or intermittent code changes what you need to do to celar it.

It would be a good idea to count the number of flashes like already said, so you could at least pinpoint the problem.

But if you're tired of looking at the light, you can reset it if it's not a hard code.

Under the glove box there will be a grey plastic connector that's not connected to anything. Take a paper clip and unbend it. Turn the car on. Touch the paper clip to both of the metal pieces inside of the connector to complete the circut afer the first sequence flashes. Example, if its code 85, after it flashes 8 and 5. Hold the paper clip there until you hear beeping, you're done and the computer will be reset.

You might be lucky and it's a random event. Or you could have my situation and my light still comes on randomly every now and then.

I think I may try that just to see if it works. Mine doesn't do it intermittently though, it does it every time I start the car :-(

So code 53 is a INTERMITTENT OR REPAIRED AIR BAG CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND. You have a short to your groung somewhere. Where I have no idea good luck.

At least it is an intermittent code that can be reset. Then it if comes back on do some looking. It seems this can also be set off by a loose battery cable.
