Air Bags

I am new to the site and am just wondering if anything needs to be yanked out of the harness or if I can just snip all the wires and tape them up? Dont want the light to be on when I get her back on the road and dont want to just take the light out of the dash. Like to do things right. Thanks for any info.

I understand the point of an airbag, otherwise I wouldnt be taking it out. My question is, is there no way to trace the wires back to the main harness to eliminate the light from coming on? If not, cool! I'm taking them out because the car doesnt see the road much and I'm trying to clean up under hood some more being that I have an ass load of money into her and underhood is all that needs to be cleaned up on. Plus getting rid of the 20lbs or so in the front end.

Unfortunately it's not a common modification done so it will be hard to find anyone who has done it. You could just remove whatever you want and then unplug the bulb from behind the cluster IF the airbag light does come on.

Unfortunately, I did it on my 90. I removed every component of the system. Removing the bulb from the instrument cluster will turn the light off, but will start a chime from behind the dash. I ended up pulling the bulb, the battery backup, (from above the glovebox), and the control module (located directly above the radio). The chime is very annoying, so don't pull the bulb if you aren't prepared to pull the dash and take out the control module.

Note: Play it safe, as a general rule, NEVER cut any airbag wires, because a short in the system can cause an airbag to go off. Disconnect the battery any time you are working on this system, and stay clear of the passenger compartment when re-connecting the battery. An airbag hitting you when not in the traditional seated position can cause serious injury!
