Yeah I'm possitive this has been answered before but where the hell is the small rectangle I can cut out in the filter box under the filter? I hear its there but I'm not sure where. Any help? I also posted this in the Tech forum but no one knows.

If it's the same thing that is in the new BMW's, it's called a charcol air filter. It is supposed to stop the leakage of gas vapors. No one from BMW forums can figure out the exact use for it either. One thing is certain though. If this is what's in the new Stangs, then 1. it is messy to take it (has to be cut up), 2. can not be put back in, 3. is only required in the states, 4. increases power a little when removing it ( the new M 5's gained 20-30 hp).

Anyone else out there know if this is what is in the Stang?

there is a hydrocarbon trap in the intake tract on EARLY 05s. it comes out with a pair of pliers. it is only good for about 2 RWHP. this is not what he is reffering to.

IF you have an 05 built before APRIL 05, then it MAY be in the inlet tube, right behind the airbox. remove the inlet from the airbox, and IF you have it, it will be right there....
