Okay, I have a hard time admitting this, but I was in an accident recently. Nothing major, but both the front and back bumpers need replaced and the exhaust needed repaired (I used this as my excuse to upgrade to the duals
Anyway, the mechanic said that the air pump was, quote, "Crushed."
I called PepBoys and they said they didn't even know the 99 had an air pump. I called a Ford dealer and they said the part costs $200 and it's easy enough to replace that I can do it myself.
How could the air pump be crushed? The only damage to the car was the bumpers and the exhaust leak. Is this something I really need to replace? Can I live without it? And is it really as easy to replace as they say?
Most importantly, will it pass inspection without it?
