Air To Air Paxton or Vortech Aftercooler on 2000 GT with V2SQ?

I have a 2000 GT with a V2SQ and I am trying to figure out which way to go for a cooler. Some suggest the Paxton A/A and others the Vortech Water/Air. My car is a street car and does not see track time for the most part. I am trying to determine which will produce the best horse power gain safely on a stock block GT. My car is a show car so I am also considering the aesthetics of the unit as well.

My battery is already moved to the trunk as in the picture below so that is not an issue:

Any suggestions on what numbers I should expect from each unit, as well as recommendations on if there is a kit for the Paxton that will bolt on to my Vortech unit would be greatly appreciated.

I have researched this alot myself and I am going with a paxton air to air intercooler because it will give a more consistant air inlet temp because the water tends to get hot after a while of driving on the aftercooler , plus you dont have to relocate the battery which concerned me as well ....
 
I dont have any experience with the two, but from what Ive read, most people seem to want air/air intercoolers on street cars because they dont heat soak as bad as the water/air. I hope Im saying this correctly, but someone else will have to chime in and tell you. Most of the guys that get the cobra killer kits have experience with the intercoolers and aftercoolers so you will have to see. But I believe the water/air is better for the track just because you can load it with ice water and it works great that way. Hope Ive helped. Oh and I dont think its the cooler that gives you horsepower, I think it is the fact that you can up the timing and boost without spark knock with the inter/after cooler that gives you the power. Good luck, hopefully someone with experience can help a little better.
 
didnt notice the battery but since you already have it relocated it might be cheaper to go with the aftercooler since some of the cost is in the relocation of the battery , either way the other guy is right , the extra power comes from more timing being allowed due to a cooler air charge not detonating as early .....
 
at some point, i'm going to go with the Paxton intercooler. as stated earlier, once the liquid in a w/a heats up, it doesn't serve much of a purpose whereas an a/a cools itslef when you are driving.
 
Hey Darren, as I have mentioned to you a few times and people here have mentioned, the Vortech Aftercooler will have inconsistant temperatures and heat up very quick. I feel the aftercooler is a decent setup if you are using the vehicle for track purposes and can change the water/ice frequently.

We have worked on cars running aftercoolers, no coolers and A/A Coolers - the data and results speak for itself. A Procharger or Paxton A/A intercooler is the best way to go....it will also look great on your car (being a show car that is important to you as well)
 
i'm going with the Paxton A/A as soon as funds permit. The temps here in TX can get downright nasty and I need all the protection and safety I can get. Plus they have an added bling factor up front.... :nice:

I'm running the A/A because I didn't want to relocate the battery and then need a kill switch when racing but considering you already relocated the battery you can go either way.

I like the Paxton A/A but some feel the aftercooler could net more power at the track with ice but overall the A/A seems to be a better bet for less maintaince on a daily driver.
