The 7.5 rear end from a TC is 3/4" wider I understand? That is not for each side, right?
I discovered that my rear brakes have absolutly no stopping power. The E-brake works ok, but I can slam on the brakes hard as I want in the snow, and the rear tires don't lock up. Instead of trying to find the problem, and fix it (which is probably simple as adjusting them ;) ) I think it would be nice to build up a TC rear end to throw under there. I could put in my 4.10's, get a t-lock (or posi as Cro like to call it :nonono: ) in there, and enjoy the "wider is better" looks, handling and REAR DISK BRAKES. Seems like an obvious solution to a simple problem.
.... hmmmm, maybe I should swap to 5 lugs now too. Which cars out there would have a 7.5 rear end with disk brakes and 5 lugs? I do NOT want to go to an 8.8, because it is heavier, and the A4ld will break long before the 7.5.
My local U-pull it rarely has cool cars. I have only seen 3-4 TC in total, but they always have lots of V6 thunderbirds and cougars.

I have a 7.5" rear from a 96 Mustang V6. It is 5 lug and disc brakes with a 3.73:1 Traction Lock. I think the SN95 rears are .75" wider per side due to the exciter rings for the ABS SYSTEM

North race cars sells a bracket that lets you mount all the stock SN95 rear brake stuff using Ranger 5 lug axles on a stock Fox 7.5" or 8.8" rear.

Go here for all the Mustang rear disc brake info you could ever want....and more.

I have an 8.8 with SN95 axles, and I hardly notice the wheels sticking out too far. Only issue I had was with the 255/45/17 tires rubbing a bit on the fender lip. The hammer fixed that in a matter of minutes. Here's some pics:

Pic 1 (Yes, I know, the 'tards at the shop mounted the tire backwards.)

I can definatly tell that the tires stick out a little futher with the SN95 rear end, and I love it.
On the mother of all braking websites (svo73mm....) he says that the wider SN95 rear end would result in rubbing with an 8" or wider wheels. Thanks for clearing that one up. :D

I would look for a SN95 rear end, but I have NEVER seen one at the local u-pull it, and I doubt I am willing to dump the money for anything else.

I think the best setup would be to use the North Racecars SN95 bracket for a Fox body rear. This would allow you to use a common Fox body rear with Ranger 5 lug axles and use all of the SN95 parts.

Also by using the North racecar brackets for SN95 rear discs on a Fox body rear you dont have the extra .75" per side to worry about. Brackets are pricey but I feel this is a good setup for a street car. If your gonna race the Cobra rear discs would be the best setup.

"5-Lug SN95 Rear Disk Brake Conversion (10.6" Rotor)
NEW! Now available, SN95 (non-cobra) rear disk brake conversion. For the first time an inexpensive way to keep the FX track and get disc brakes. Kit includes 2 brackets and 2 spacers. The instructions are the same as the cobra with the exception of the Rotors. The new bracket uses a standard rotor and not the Cobra Rotor. Great for the 15 inch wheel crowd.

Brackets $150 pr + $12 shipping."

7. North RaceCars Rear disc SN95 conversion brackets (stock rear track length):
This is a special bracket that uses the 94+ Mustang rear calipers and rotors. What is special about the brackets is that you can use the stock 87-93 length axles, but in 5 lug! So if you have custom wheels, or converted to 5 lug with the Ranger/Aerostar or FMS conversion, you will not have problems with the offset. You can also run the same wheels on all 4 corners of your car. For 4 lug, you will have the re-drill the rear rotors to the 4 lug bolt pattern. Here are the basic parts you will need for the conversion:

94+ Mustang GT/V6 10.5" rear rotors:
- North RaceCars Brackets - for the GT/V6 rear rotors
-94+ loaded Mustang calipers complete (with bracket and hardware)
-94+ GT/V6 10.5" solid rear rotors
-For the 87-92 cars, use the (2) FMS M-2809-A and (1) FMS M-2810-A cable
-For the 93, use the 93 cobra cables F3ZZ-2A635-A
-94-95 rear caliper hoses

Other than that, fluids, a few miscellaneous fittings, caliper bolts, and address the stock master cylinder and proportioning valve.

Since there is a difference in the size of the rotor and hub, you need a spacer to center the rotor. Find a pipe that is 2.5" ID, 2.75" OD and about 3/8" tall to use. You can also get a spacer of those dimension made.

This means that in 5 years you should have no problems finding brake parts while the older turbo coupe rears might be hard to find parts for.

I was looking at the north racecar braket, and that is definatly the way to go. I am not going to go 5l yet, but I think upgrading to disk rear breaks would be a big step forward from no rear brakes. :nice:

IN short......... You can on the 1993 replace drum rear with disc, add traction lock, and go to 5 lug......keeping the stock 7.5 rear using the 3.73:1 gears already in it.

to do this I will need.........

(SVO1) "Take your rear end, add a locking carrier (I think I still have one) and get some disks off of a Mark VII rear end. Flip the brackets and viola, same track as a fox. Plus add some ranger axles and you are 5 lug."

What size are the Mark VII rear disc, and does it matter on the year of Ranger axel?

Now I am planning to go to a T5 will the 7.5 hold up or will I be happier building a complete 8.8 rear with all I want? (future thought of maintence and part availability)

Anlushac11, I should have looked at your sig and seen that you have the answer to my question of the rear end on your car. How hard do you launch? 5G?

 Um...I'll let you know once I get it running. 140CILX has a garage queen, I just have a queen. I have been gathering parts all winter and am planning to put it together this spring when it warms up. Right now my Stang is sitting in front yard under car cover with 1/4" of ice over the car cover.

And I am still unemployed so I have to do it on the cheap.

Understand totally, I am gathering what I need so that the conversion will go in all at one time with the least down time possible. From engine to rear, planning on 1 week for install and tune, then its off to the track. No time frame yet because I still need a sea of parts.
