All your carb issues solved here!

So Im poking around fordmuscle.com and come across this article:

http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2000/09/jetcarb/index.shtml

Looks legit, so I give Jet a call. I had a POS 4150 Holley 650 cfm carb laying around, so I tell them my specs and send it in. $400 later, my car runs better than ever before. They went though everything, and even cold, the motor starts and idles with no choke tower. Almost fuel injected feeling. Seriously, I just some kid from CT, who trusted these guys from Cali, but its amazing! I had a 750 Edelbrock and the Innovate O2 kit, and the Ebrock wouldnt let me tune my tip ins or accelerator pump shots. Holley is the way to go! Check it out!

Pro-Systems can do the same thing. Patrick James is a whiz.

I'm glad you had a good experience, I haven't heard of Jet good or bad, but I'm starting to see the light on these magazine articles. As I gather, these companies pay to have articles written about them in a shining light, and they pay quite a bit. The mags also get free stuff to us and build projects with. This is why I've let all my magazine subscriptions not be renewed. And I understand its not just automotive mags, its all of them. Maybe the rest of you have all seen the light before me and I'm just a dim bulb....

In my experience it's usually not payola, but it is sometimes swag or favors. Sometimes it's just that the guys running the shops are talented, and they are close enough to the freelancer geographically to make the trip cost effective. Sometimes there is a relationship that we don't know about, like they are old drinking buddies.

While I wouldn't say it's 100% objective, I would say that the level of graft is not what you think.

Also, when freelancers get swag that is crap, they tend to just not run the story, rather than run a negative piece. As big as this industry is, people tend to stay in it for life, and usually work for more than one company. rarely are bridges burned by editorial objectivity.

I have a lot of friends in the industry that I would just ditch the articleand tell them about the flaws rather rather than call them out to thousands of people. KInd of a professional courtesy, if you will.

I also thought about the way in which the articles are written. I have taken a few chances on magazine recommendations, and this by far has been the best. I did find some other companies too, and Im sure they are all very good at what the do, I just chose this one. Just thought Id push along some good news for once that might help others.
