:bang: Went to PIR Friday right after I got off of work which was around 7:00 P.M. Rushed  over and got teched in, threw on the MT drag slicks :nice: and got five runs in before 10:00 P.M. Had to get up at 4:00 A.M. for work on Saturday so I could not hang out and play as much as I wanted to.

Thanks to Doug for the tips on getting the weight to the rear. I made 3 passed without the juice. Best pass was 13.33 tires spinning in first and second. PSI was way to high. Made two passes on the juice and the best was 12.10 at 116 mph. Tires still spinning. PSI was at 10 lbs. by this point. Sure was nice beating a Porch, SS Camaro, Mitsu evo viii, and some other fancy imports. :rlaugh: Have it all on film.

My reaction times sucked. We are talking .580, .440, etc. You get the picture. My best was .135. (that one was luck) Best 60' was a 1.79. This was the first time I have every raced this car and I was nervous and excited at the same time. I watch other 12 and 11 second cars from the stands go down the track and they seem fast. But when I was in the car giving it everything I had it seemed it took forever to get to the 1320.

So if anyone has advice on how to lower my times, let me have it. :D Next I will be removing the front strut bar, installing 90/10 lakewoods, and buying some littles for the front. This should help. The mustang is a 88 notchback with a 5-speed. Battery is already in the trunk along with after market fiberglass hood and trunk lid.

If I have done my math correctly:shrug: the car will do a 11.52 pass. I just need to learn how to drive it. On my 12.10 pass my reaction time was .580.:nonono: Ed I know how you felt now, I want the 11 zone bad!!!!

Good job Ben:nice: Ya your wright I know How you feel, all I can say is learn as much as you can on each run, learn what your car likes and dosent, get your 60' down, have fun and the next thing you'll know your there at least thats what worked for me. I about gave up "emotionally" that is and when I just went to have fun I had two 11's in a rowe and that was a rush i'll never forget..you'll get it. Good luck :nice:

Lighter, drag racing wheels will drop your times with no other changes, but you have enough power to get deep into the 11's. I recommend Convo Pros which will not require longer studs. Buy a drivebelt that goes from the crankshaft to the alternator. The back of the belt will turn the waterpump. You will have to work out the tensioning. I usually pry the alternator over until the belt is tight. The belt will need to be about 40 inches. Your 60 ft times are really slow. Do you have a line lock? Are they prepping the track? Improving those times will also get you into the 11's, instantly. Your reaction times do not affect your ETs, but leave on the last yellow. You are allowing cars almost a half second slower to spank you with the lights you are cutting. You just need a little seat time. You will probably get into the 11's the next time out with no changes at all. Good luck!!

Exactly! If you are worried about your times and really wanting to get into the 11's then run your race, don't worry anything about the guy sitting next to you. If you go to like streetfire, or speed addiction you can see factory cars that are wanting good and consistent times will sit at the line for almost a second to make sure their time is consistent.

I know when I am racing that my heart is pumping and I so want to smoke that guy next to me, but if your going for time f-them. If you want reaction time dump the clutch the second you see that last yellow light up.

Seat time, and getting to know your car and what combo works best for your car is what you need to know to get it to the times we know it's capaeble of.

I have an '87 LX Notch and would love to meet up with a bunch of mustangs at PIR some night as I have not been on the track yet with this car.

Your car looks good!!:nice: I walked right by ya when you were putting the street tires back on, didn't know it was you. Car hooked good, but some 15x3.5's and no swaybar out front will make a night and day difference with your car! Black coupe's are just plane bad ask!! Congrats

Nate

Did you see Jeff H. running the "blue car show coupe"? :nice: too!!

wow exciting news ben! good job!!!! well all the help i can give is pratice. My first pass was a 13.7 then a 13.5 then i went deep into the 13's knocking on the 12's and thats N/A! I do a good burny and roll up to the line, 3rd yellow floor it hit 5200 dump goes the clutch!!! ooooooooooo ****:nice: call me later i'm going to run this weekend i hope! peace

Yes I do have a line lock. I use it to warm up the tires and think I could use it at the tree, but everything seems to go so fast when the second bulb is lit. In time I will get that down too. I will be removing the swaybar this weekend. 90/10 Lakewood struts are around the corner and then the littles. oh yeah I'm getting spanked at the light all right.

Johnnb bring your car to the track Saturday night and introduce yourself. I will be there if I am not working which I will find out for sure tomorrow.

Thanks for the rim size Nate. Will be looking at getting those next month. If your at the track Saturday night stop by and say hi. I did see Jeff H. Wife filmed one of his burnouts. I think he only ran 2-3 runs then rested for awhile. Didn't have time to talk to him. So buisy doing my own thing. That car hauls the mail. What do you have cooking in your engine bay? I need to get one of those next year. Or atleast start the long list of go fast parts.

If I can make it to PIR I will bring Codemonkey's and Ed's dvds.

John do you do your burnouts in first, second, or third? The first 3 passed I did it in first. Then tried second. seemed to heat the tires up sooner, little more white smoke never hurt anyone either. Is third a waste of time? I will let you know tomorrow if I am going on Saturday.

I did not get to watch any of your runs but it sounds like it's all in the 60 ft times. I was doing 1.63 to 1.77 60 ft that night with the 235 drag radials at 15 psi. I run stock front struts, 4 cyl front springs, no ft sway bar, 195 60 15 front tires at 50 psi, v8 rear springs with an air bag at the rt rear set to 20 psi, Mac upper and lower rear control arms and QA1 rear shocks set to 3. I leave at 3000 to 3500 on the 100 shot and ran between 11.6 and 11.8 friday at 116 and 117 mph. The car weighs 3100 lbs with me in it. Hope this helps. I don't know what you made at the dyno for HP but mine does just under 360 on the 100 shot. The motor is a stock 01 gt motor with headers, pulleys and a accufab plenum.

So much for the cloud of secrecy:rolleyes: :D :D :D

Thanks guys. Believe me I am taking notes. I know my front rims have to go away. Thats coming soon. I'm taking the sway bar off today, new struts next week. 60' times were not so good. Best was 1.79 or something like that. I was told to launch at a high rpm and give it all I could like a fat hungry kid in a candy store. Drag slicks were finally at 10psi, still spinning. Going to play with that somemore. I made 420 rwhp & 507 rwt on 150 shot. I just need more seat time. Where could I weigh my car? Truck scales give you somewhat of an idea but hardly accurate for a lighter vehicle.

Thanks guys,
Ben
