Alright, how the #$@% do you get the dash skin off??

I'm not sure why it would need a cover.. air blows in there all the time anyway. What's the difference if it hits a sheet of aluminum instead of a plastic door?

You didn't mention anything about putting anything over it, you said you weren't going to worry about it. Now you're saying you're not sure why it would need a cover and that you're putting aluminum over it. You're confusing me.

Maybe we're not talking about the same thing?

The cowl vent is a round hole covered with a mesh grill inside the cowl chamber.. I'm not talking about the cowl grill (the black plastic piece on the hood). Sorry for the confusion. Anyway, all the air that normally goes into the cowl chamber will be doing the same thing it always did.. but now instead of hitting against a plastic door (like when your hvac system is closed/off), now it will be hitting an aluminum panel.. no difference. I don't see why you would want to block it off at the grill, it's not like air/water will be getting anywhere it shouldn't or doesn't normally.

I didn't get a chance to work on this much today, so no progress pics yet. I can't believe how much crap I pulled out of there, though.. probably close to 40 pounds.

Ok -- that's exactly what I was talking about. I was just wondering if you were actually going to block off the hole at the top of your HVAC box where the air vent used to be -- it didn't sound like you were going to the way I read your earlier post. That's why I was curious ... :nice:

Yeah, I just made an aluminum plate and epoxied it on from the inside.. not the most elegant (or reversible) method but I was in a rush to get the dash back in :D.

I stop and wonder what I'm doing to this poor car sometimes.. after all the weight reduction I've done, ditching the smog equipment, etc, and now the whole hvac system.. I'm never going to be able to sell it as a street car if I want to. All of the sound deadening stuff is gone (including the crap glued all over the floor), it's so loud inside my car it's like you're sitting in the engine bay.. forget about having a radio, or a conversation. There's no center console, and where the hvac controls were is now just an aluminum switch panel for my nitrous and whatnot. If I ever choose/need to sell it my only hope will be to find someone looking for an autocross or drag car. Either I'm really stupid, or.. well I can't come up with anything else right now.

I haven't made any final leaps of no return on my car -- though I'm sure I'm getting close. I have most all of the same stuff gone -- except for the HVAC. I somehow convinced myself to keep the vent setup, though I don't currently have the heater core connected or any A/C. Removing all of the sound deadening did make it noisier in the car, but the single biggest piece that had the most effect was right behind the dash. I took all of that stuff out -- that stuff that requires dropping the pedal box, removing the gas pedal, removing the HVAC unit, after the dash is gone of course. I kno exactly what you mean about sitting in the engine bay. Ain't it cool? :nice:
