alternator amperage??

ok...thank you bill...so is it the one used for the 3g alternator swap for the fox bodies?? Does anyone know what is involved in putting a 200 amp alt in our cars..does the wiring need to be upgraded?????thanks

Yep, our alt is a 3G (the aero foxes came with 2G's).

For increasing the amperage, you'd indeed want to upgrade the charge cable and circuit protection. This is easily done. You can run the new cable to the passenger side and down across the front cliip or just mimic the OEM routing (I chose the latter method).

Good luck.

I thought a stock one was 65 amps and the 3G from PA-Performance was an upgrade to 130 or 200 amps for the 6G?

Up through 93 was a 2G (65 amps).
In 94, with the E-fan and other upgrades for the Fox IV platform, the alt was finally upgraded to a 3G (130 amp).

A 6G is another alt altogether. It has a smaller case than our 3G (the fox guys like it because you dont need to grind the alternator bracket).

ok so now let me ask this question..what is entailed in swapping the 200 amp to our cars..what about a 150..i saw one on ebay and was just wondering if that one would not only plug right in and would it suppress the charging problem associated with my pullies??

94 Blk, The stock charge cable is barely adequate for 130 amps. So a new cable and circuit protection are needed. You just runthe new cable, with circuit protection (I use ANL fuses) as close to the alt as you can get it). Do this for any alternator you get over 130 amps (I even would do it on a stock alt just because the wiring degrades. Many folks have had the wire separate at the ring terminal at the alt).

You need to remember that even a high-output alt wont necessarily have great output at idle. This is one reason U/D's suck. Have you considered overdriving your current alternator? Just be sure to keep the alternator RPM's under 15K.

Rob, starting around 2000, the 6G's became very common. Most of the FLM SUV's have them. I have a list someplace (I think) but I'd have to dig for a bit.

If it's the three month warranty and $127.00 that's cheap for a G3 but it makes me wonder who makes it because PA's have a lifetime for a 130 amp at $199.00, That cheap one might last years or it may last 94 days, you choice!

How does that mount in our cars? Looks like the mounting points are different. Do you pull the guts out and put them in our case?

I don't know yet it will fit 95's. I was on my way out and the guy next door was putting in PA-Performance in his 95, the end of the box was marked G6 which got my attention. He won't be home until the weekend and I do plan on asking.
