Alternator mounting question

I'm rewiring my engine compartment and as part of the deal I'm replacing my alternator. Now the car used to have an air conditioning system, but has had that gone for years now, however the compressor mounting remained, and so the bright sparkly new chrome alternator I bought would be thoroughly obscured beneath it for no good reason. So I called up NPD, asked for a non-AC alternator mounting piece for a '66 289, and they shipped me a little triangular bracket thingy which for the life of me I cannot figure out how to use. Anyone know how to use this thing, or if it's even the correct piece? I can't seem to figure out how to line up any of the holes so that any of the others also line up at the same time... what am I missing? I can post pics if it becomes necessary.

on a factory ac setup the compresor is mounted on the driver side and the alternator is on the passenger side. so i think a pic would help a lot, especially if your car had an aftermarket ac system. the little triangular bracket mounts between the alternator and the water pump

Looks like the bracket off my 70,
the smaller holes mount to the water pump and the
large one in the main alt mounting bolt to eng block.

turn it 180 from how you have it now and thats how it bolts up. 2 bolts to the water pump, 1 to the top alt pivot/bolt. Now I am a little confused...doesnt the ac compressor go on the other side of the motor...the side with the PS pump? I went to add ac to my car several years ago but finally decided not to because it made it damn near impossible to work on the timing and several other things.
