Alternator Positive terminal burning, car running on battery problem.

HI gang, Im having my positive alternator terminal burning out. The alternator positive terminal keeps breaking, im on my 3rd alternator in almost 2 years(Thank goodness for autozone's warranty). After the 2nd alternator died I switched to a 10 gauge wire.

Is their a quick fix? or am I going to have to take it to an automotive electrical shop?... HELP.

The terminal on the back of the alt or the wiring terminal?

If you have doubts about the stock charge cable (it's a POS), upgrade to a 4 AWG cable. You can route it so the cable isnt 'loading' the terminal (stressing it).

Yeah a 10 gage wire is nothing... you need like a 4 awg or maybe even a 2 awg... remember that alternator can be putting out more than 100 amps when needed...

As I recall, the stock charge cable is 6 AWG (you might be thinkin of 2G's on foxes, where there were two 10 AWG cables running down to an 8 AWG).

A 4 AWG cable from the alt to the distribution block should be good for ~155 amps, as I recall.

I was thinking that it is cheap insurance to up the cable size if you are going to re-run it... only cost you an extra $10 or so over 4 gage...
