Im not sure what the stock output is but i know with U/D i get some pretty bad diming especially when its cold out. I wanna run about 2000W stereo and i think i need to get a heavy duty Alternator.. anyone know any good decently priced ones? and how many amps should i get?

Thanx in advance

Stock is 130.

2000W = 13.8V x ??? amps.

That is 144 amps. You won't need to run that many amps all the time, b/c that is peak wattage and you will never see that much. My guess is upgrading to a 160 or a 200 should be plenty.

I don't know what the aftermarket amps are rated at, but I would assume they are rated at normal operation @ 13.8V.

Just make sure you use heavy gauge wire in all of your connections, and run your RCA's on the opposite side that you run your power wires and speaker wires. This will cut down on inductance & minimize negative feedback.

aftermarket ones are usually 200A I got mine from a guy off ebay for 129.99+ shipping its a nice looking alt already has a smaller pulley on it. The guy is real nice I have emailed him many times asking him questions about stuff. it has a lifetime warrenty on it (that was a must have). I was havng problems with it emailed him he said send it back sent it back waited a few days emailed him, he said its on its way back a solder connection had come loose. I put it back in the car works great. I have noticed that sitting idle the gauge sits low but once you hit the gas it jumps back up I'm guessing thats from the pulley while your driving its fine. It works for me and my car got all kinda strobes and **** for the fire company.

If you want any info let me know i'll get ya his name

Hey mysterymachine, a smaller alt pulley will spin faster and u should get a better charge, not a worse one.

When I put underdrive pulleys on my car the charge got so low at idle that the car would stall and wouldnt start back up because the battery was dead.I called PA performance for a high output alternator but they told me that the one our cars came with stock already puts out the same as their high output ones.So I had them ship me new heavy duty battery and alt. cables.Which helped a little but not enough.I then tried a new motorcraft alt. Didnt help.Also tried new battery.I then sent the car to Larrocas perf. to have them try and fix it and they said that some cars (especially AODE) just dont run with u/d pulleys.They checked all the wiring and everything checked ok.They recomended putting the stock ones back on which I did and no problems since.And all my cars has is the stock Mach 460.
