After talking to a local T-bolt racer and tranny guy, it looks like we will be going with the TKO 600 to bolt up to our 428. He said the T56 is a good tranny but expensive if we break parts.

So the next question, is an aluminum drive shaft strong enough to handle the torque from the 428 ? (275/40/17 or 18's on the rear)

And if it is, where do I get one?

Hard to say. Alot of people here I know put a ton of abuse to a aluminum shaft. But I don't know how many of them are sticks. With a stick, the torque won't be as much of a problem as the shock of dropping the clutch. I run one that is 3.5 stock and haven't had a problem.

I had a new driveshaft built for my 428 and I inquired about aluminum and the guy laughed. He said that the 428 would most likely break the drive shaft if i was able to get traction. He said the car would need a bigger tunnel to fit a larger diameter driveshaft to compensate for the torque. Thats all I was told. May not be the case but I know aluminum does fatigue pretty easily and it would have been in his best interest to sell me an AL one money wise.

I have a 3.5 inch aluminum driveshaft. I had it custom made by a local shop but was told that it should easily be able to handl 450rwhp. You just need to find a shop tell them what you have and what you plan to do with it, they will be able to customize one to your specific needs.
