Aluminum Driveshaft: Banging on E-brake cables?

Anyone else have this problem?

I keep adjusting my e-brake (Ford Racing cables for SN95 rear disk) but every time i release the handle and hit a bump, the metal equalizer bangs off the aluminum driveshaft I have?

Kinda annoying. Anyone ever deal with this??


Do i need to adjust my cables tighter?

I did. The adjustment is too loose. Tighten up the adjuster on the cable and it will raise up so that it does not rub on the driveshaft.

Thanks. Guess i'll crawl under there again and tighten it up a few more turns

I guessing that you did the modification that eliminates the self adjuster on the parking brake lever mechanism. If so, the extra few turns will probably fix your problem.

If the car is lowered you will most likely have to cut off a piece of the threaded portion. This is what I ended up having to do with mine. It seems pretty common.

Yes, i did all that.


I don't think i'll be able to cut off the threaded portion with the driveshaft still attached. But i do have a good 4" or so just hanging off doing nothing. I wonder if some really strong pliers or cutters would do the trick?

Try a cutoff wheel in a dremel or die grinder. There is a little more room when you jack the car and put the jackstands under the body jackpoints. This allows the rear axle to drop a pretty good distance and helps to make more room to do the job.
