Has anyone used the aluminum driveshaft from a Crown Vic? It seems pretty stout, much more so than the Aerostar's, but the driveshaft shop wants to sell me a custom made one. Of course. Do you think it will hold up? I think I should be sending about 290-300 hp to the rear wheels. Anyone have any input... $80 to shorten or $300 for new... I don't know if the amount of power warrants a heavier duty one.

Driveshaft

I think you should be alright with stock, shortened if necessary, driveshaft. They are overdesigned , if not they would be known for failure. If you are using slicks and dragracing, maybe not.

How thick is the crown vics? The one I got from street or track is 3" and I think they are good up to 450hp with slicks, but I'm not 100% on that. I thought there was something out there that had like a 3 1/2 incher under it that would work.

The one I got was from a '93. It's a pretty big diameter, bigger than the one from the Aerostar.

Could look for a driveshaft from an F-150. That's basically what I run. It's a 3.5 stock. Had held up so far.

Thanks 10secgoal. I thought about that one as well, but I already got this one. The one I got came out of a wrecked police cruiser, so I am sure it will hold up now that I think about it. I suppose it is always good to pose the question anyway. Don't like to recreate problems that someone else has already had to fix. Edit: I measured the dia. and it is 3.5"s. Should be fine.

Engine Might have to get a Dart block but don't want to and if I do, then 363 instead of 331. Thoughts on what I've already bought so far.......
