I bought a 91 Hatch with an AOD and it turns out it was not as good a deal as I thought. After I bought it I ran a carfax (I know, I know) and I was the third owner in FOUR months. The reason-previous owners had monkeys wrench on it-missing screws, broken bolts, scratches, nicks, just plain bad wrenching. After I bought it I went on a rampage in order to get it quiet and smooth. I replaced:
-door strikers-door seals-hatch seal-motor mounts-tranny mount
-new dampner-new wheels/tires-new u-joints
-stock driveshaft balanced and indexed
-dynomat entire interior, roof, plastic panels, floor etc
-new 5.0 resto carpet with rubber layer+ regular jute
Still had slight vibration at 75+ MPH
THEN I found a used aluminum driveshaft on craigslist (ATL) for $100! Put it on, and on the first try it was smooth as could be up to 90 MPH. I deserved this cause my last 3 car projects have gone poorly. Next up is a competely suspension.

No, I guess this could in "talk" but I wanted thread searchers to find a way to solve vibrations.

Glad to hear your saving it. I seem to see more and more 5.0's in worse shape lately.

"slight vibration at 75+ MPH"
I had the same problem with mine when I bought it. I put in a 3.55 gear and boy did it really go to shaking. Aluminum driveshaft solved it.
