I have a 2003 automatic gt that i want to put an aluminum drive shaft on. Everything ive looked up says for manuals only and has a 31 spline yoke. Is that only because of the different yoke spline and if so, they make a v6 version that comes with a 28 spline yoke. Would that work or no? any information would be appreciated very much

Just swap the front yoke from your old driveshaft with the one on your new aluminum driveshaft. Actually don't know for sure if that works might be different length.

The way I would do it would be to go to http://www.pstds.com/ and order the right one.

Actually most local driveshaft shops like Six States http://www.sixstates.com/products/products.jsp could make one and you get to keep the business local Always a plus!

Don't waste yer money.

And why is that, do you think its a bad upgrade because....?

How is it a waste of money if you want an aluminum driveshaft?

Here are a list of reasons why an aluminum driveshaft is one of the single best upgrade for a Mustang:
1.Reduced weight translates in to increase in performance. Actually gain in RWHP and Torque.
2.Most if not all are high speed balanced translating into a smoother ride with less vibrations.
3.Reduced vibrations lower wear and tear on transmission and rear end resulting in longer service life.
4.Reduced weight causes less shock to the rear end, transmission, clutch, engine under initial acceleration resulting in longer service life for each part.
5.Great looks, like a highly modded car from underneath with a single upgrade.
6.Provide enough commonsense to not allow a Terminator to get covered in snow.:stupid:

I'll side with Kilgore on this: An Al driveshaft is probably not worth the expense if you're buying it as a "performance" upgrade.

I'd only consider one if I'd geared my car such that the OE driveshaft was spinning near its critical RPM and whipping/vibrating at highway speeds. Such vibrations are not only annoying; they can also pound the bushing in the tailshaft housing all to hell. To fix driveline critical RPM vibrations it's a worthwhile upgrade...

well why not consider a D/S from an aerostar ? much cheaper. I installed one in my fox body and it was definetly a nice upgrade. at high speeds it was ultra smoothe and it did seem to make a difference in terms of acceleration.

Thanks alot guys. and i started looking into the upgrade because my u joints need to be changed so i figured while i was there maybe i could upgrade my drive shaft to get more power to my wheels i already have a procharger putting out 8lbs and i dont wana push my motor too much so anything i can do to make it quicker sounds good to me
