I am very disappointed that FoMoCo wants me to kick in a nickel toward this repair, and are hiding behind the semantics of the warranty. As a manufacturer they recognize, on a global level, that there is iron contamination in the aluminum body panels on numerous models and this has been an issue(see my previous post). Truly mileage on this car (that is less than two years and garage kept) really means nothing! Corrosion is a time thing, and the oxidation under the hood started when she was new and on the lot. Only now 19 months later is it bubbling up under the paint.

I feel let down by ford's quality and will probably alter my plans of trading my HP white V6 for a GT/CS like I had planned. I flip through cars every 3-4 years and will just let the next owner deal with this as a used car. I honestly expected Ford to want to send me a new hood or something. The thought of the dealer sanding and grinding my paint makes me cringe....then the thought of having to drop 250 plus the sales taxes on whole 650 as well as a rental car for 3 days ...... just makes me upset.

I wanted to assure you that the offer you accepted, $400 towards the repair and a rental car for 3 days, would be your best option. There are no warranties or other coverages currently available where Ford Motor Company would provide additional assistance. I assure you the repairs will be completed professionally. Natasha, It is nice to see a Rep from Ford keeping tab's on this board and addressing customer's concerns, good job. However I think in this case more should be done. I was a service writer for various ford and L/M dealers in the NYC area for 11 years. Now I left the industry 10 1/2 years ago so maybe things have changed, but at the time we were allowed to offer up to 2 PO5 after warranty repairs to customers in certain cases, this in my opinion is one of those cases. Based on the TSB this is a known concern,and clearly a factory defect. Yes the car is out of warranty so technically Ford doesn't have to anything, but it is out by mileage, the car is only a year and a half old. If it was a slipping transmission , or an oil leak, or something that could be attributed to usage it is one thing, but this type of problem has nothing to do with mileage, wear and tear, etc. This is factory paint defect,an acknowledged defect on a car that is 18 months old. This repair should be covered 100%. I don't know if the Op was really planning on trading to car in for a GT/CS or not, but is it good business to lose a customer for life over $250.00? Not to mention the fact that if he were to walk into small claims court with a copy of the TSB he has good chance of walking out with his $250.00+. As I said this repair can and should be done at no expense to the customer, and if I were the guy sitting behind the desk at the dealership when he walked in it would be.

This thread is a perfect example of why the Japanese were able to take such a large part of the US auto market from the US auto makers.

Ford is apparently willing to lose one customer and numerous other customers over 250 dollars!

There is something very wrong generally with American Corporate Management-and this is an example!
