Larger motors make their power at lower RPMs than a smaller one.
That's why you can use more aggressive heads on a larger motor and not loose streetable low end power.

Another cylinder head option is Edelbrock's Vic Jr. cylinder heads. They are reasonably priced and keep the exhaust ports in the stock location.

you need a Performer RPM Air-Gap. Its power range is 1500 to 6500 and its a dual plane intake. Good for a Street Car with low end torque

Check out the AFR page at Custom Performance Racing. They sell other heads as well, but only the AFR pages gives application recommendations as far as cubic inch size and rpm range. Call your cam manufacturer and ask them what they would recommend with your combination, and specifically list the heads manufacturer (AFR, Edelbrock, TFS, Canfield, etc). Only caveat with that is if you're running an Edelbrock cam, they'd probably recommend the Edelbrock heads. Still, couldn't hurt to ask.

Come now grasshopper, do not be fooled by high lift numbers. Your valve might see that lift once. TFS are special down low.

As a tack on to the reason why:

A big motor will flow the same amount of air at a lower rpm as a small motor at a high rpm. They flow more, and so big heads aren't so big on bigger motors.

205's exhaust port is only raised 1/8". The thick decks (I've heard from those using the heads) also tend to raise the ports a bit. You might find an off-the-shelf header that still fits(?) The other good-flowing head that has stock exhaust ports is the Ford Racing Z304 head. I'm anxious to see someone to build a nice stroker using these heads and report the results (yes, I've seen the +500hp 393 buildup in the mags). They are quality and can probably flow 300cfm/230cfm with just a bit of porting and backcut valves.

Sorry not trying to piggyback, but will the air-gap fit under the stock hood of a 1969 Mach1 with 351 Windsor with stock aircleaner housing(No shaker). If not will cutting a hole around 8-10" and making my scoop funcitonal help solve the clearance issues. Or should I just abandon hope and either get the regular performer rpm or get an aftermarket airfilter.

Don't know the answer, but you can get a dropped-base air cleaner and gain nearly an inch of clearance. Is there some reason why you want to keep the stock air cleaner?
