3m rubbing compound

no joke

the rims on my car are american racing 5star. they are at least 10 years old and were never washed by the previouse owner. even after trying a myriad of cleaning agents the rims still looked like s**t and collected dirt very fast. the rear rims were so bad they literally looked white then one day I was detailing my car and found the 3m compound in my toolbox. I figured it wouldn't be possible to make my rims look any worse so I gave it a try.

well, a couple of shop rags, alot of rubbing compound and alot more elbow grease later..........my front driver side rim is so brite it almost looks chrome. I wish my camera worked, the rim looks so much better than the others they don't even look like the same rim any more. there is still a few specs of baked in brake dust but the shine is amazing. I am willing to bet if I was going to sell the car I would get at least 5-700$$ more for it just becouse it looks so good.

this took over 2 hours, thats why I am only doing one at a time. but was able to get out to the car for 3 min today to a quick wipedown on another rim and I already took some years off of that one. I figure once I get 95% of the crap off my rims all I have to do is every time I wash the car bust out the rag and some 3m or polish and I should be straight

I really REALLY wished my camera work, you would never believe the difference    :nice:

Oh I believe the difference. But I'll bet you have NOT tried MAAS Metal Polish. You want results, you'll definately get'em with this stuff.I stand behind this stuff for years and still don't like using anything else. Not even Any of that Mag Polish by Mothers or Blue Coral.Allthough, the Mothers stuff isn't bad,I still prefer using MAAS.It isn't harsh, gritty or acidic. No nasty smelling chemicals.And.....No 500 lbs of elbow grease required.I mean,if your wheels are that bad,and i've seen worse than you can imagine, you can still can that garbage out in much less time. And the shine you'll get out of this stuff is amazing.

I used to use Rubbing compound trying to clean up metals. And yeah, was amazed! But when I found MAAS,It was like a drug.I couldn't wait to see what else I could clean up with this stuff. And another good thing is,a very little goes a long way.

Go give it a look.Or just search MAAS on Google or something. No this isn't an AD.Just me trying to get someone else to see how good this stuff works. It's well worth the price you pay.

This is another suggestion and that's all it is another suggestion. But when it comes to polishing aluminum rims or whatever, have you tried using Tripoli or White Rouge with either a Spiral Sewn or Canton flannel buffing wheel on an electric drill yet?

I had great luck polishing pieces after I sanded them using this method so I'm just curious if you've ever tried this method on rims?
I know that you were talking about how your rims turned out but this might give you an idea what Tripoli and White Rouge on a buffing wheel with just a 3/8” electric drill can do to get aluminum to shine.
