Hi All,

I’m 39 with two kids and currently drive a Model Y, which I’ll be returning soon. My wife drives an IONIQ 9, so that’s what we primarily use for family transportation.

I’ve been seriously considering buying a '69 Mustang Fastback and using it as my daily driver. My commute is only about 10-20 miles each way, and I also do school drop-offs in the morning.

The dilemma is whether a classic car is realistic as a daily. A friend of mine who has owned several classics told me I’ll probably love it at first but eventually get tired of the fumes, lack of modern safety features, less comfortable ride, and generally more demanding driving experience compared to a modern vehicle.

For those of you who own or have daily-driven a '69 Mustang (or other classic muscle cars), what has your experience been? Do you still enjoy driving it every day, or does the novelty wear off after a while?

Am I crazy for considering this, or is it more doable than people think?

If you spend a fair amount of time driving-you will
Miss ride quality-stereo etc. but I have no idea what your current daily’s are,and will assume you hate carbed and lack of Bluetooth and heated and cooled seats etc. as a daily and would recommend a muscle car as a weekend warrior

I drove a spring time yellow 69 mach 1 for many years ,351 windsor ,mild cam and a kitted FMX ,factory AC with a 3:30 posi ,loved that car and it never let me down . Worked a Diablo power plant and drove it daily 200 miles a day ,took it on trips up to lake county witch was a 5 hour trip one way ,i sold it for a 2000 F150 ,I wish I still had it!

I daily drove a72 Monte Carlo for ten years, loved it.
Daily drove my93 stang for 19 years till my recent liver transplant ,after recovery ill be back daily drivng her.
I think the kids would get a kick out of driving to school in it.

Warning : the 93 is the newest car I've ever daily drove.

Simple answer, yes your crazy! Going from a TESLA to a 69 Mustang as a daily driver will leave you frustrated. Like one of the other posters said it will be fun at first but get old fast. I'm the original owner of the 88 GT in my avatar. It was my daily driver for over 10 years but I would hate to have to use it as a daily driver now, beside the safety features going to a 69 will leave you wanting better reliability, better traction, better cold starts, better ride quality, better creature comforts like heated seats, heated side mirrors, rear window defogger, cruise control etc. not mention gas mileage; you're looking at 12 -15 mpg around town and just a bit more on the highway and that is with a small block. Off course there are resto mod options with modern engines and drivetrains but to get close to comfort and performance of your TESLA you're probably going to pay as much as 2 new TESLAs, get no warranty and have to find a shop to maintain it. It can be done, as it was in 1969, but is probably not in your best interest based on the limited information you provided. If you really want a 69 figure out how to get it as third car that way you get all of the fun and a lot less of the inconveniences of having to rely on a 57 year old car . BTW I'm 63 years old and have owned, driven, raced and built many cars, trucks and Bikes over the years so I have some experience to backup my opinion. Good Luck and let us know how it turns out

Drove my 69 up until 2000. Also drove a 1935 ford pick up with a hipo 289 to work ,I am 66 now ,also built and drove race cars and many many mustangs and older fords . Biggest problem you will probably face is point ignition ,change it to electronic ,there is several to choose from . I would still be driving my 69 if I hadn't needed a truck for work ,still have the 2000 f150 ,sits in my front yard and I drive it about 2000 Miles a year ,usually when I need to haul or pick up somthing big . Covered in spider webs at the moment!
