Today I finished bolting all parts onto the engine. I have two bolts that bolt into the back of the heads, next to two carbon filled holes that look like they run with the exhaust. However, I have no brackets that should bolt up to here. I bought it as a basket case (torn apart, parts missing). It still has the cats so I'm guessing they where on there at time of disassembly. Anyone have a pic of these tubes? Or know exactly what I am missing? How bad will this change my idle ---a/f ratio--o2 readings-if I plug them?

Those holes sound to me like the EGR ports. If you're running an EGR then they should be used. If not, plug em.

Well, seeing as how the tubes have somehow disappeared, I guess I'll have to remove my egr. I'll run a search to find out what all needs to be done and the effects it will on my o2 reading, a/f mixture etc. thanks for the help

Not to get an EGR debate started, but after doing a feww searches I Don't think I'll be removing it. Looks like off to the junk yard I go.

That's probably what I'd have done as well.

That sounds like the air thermactor ports and not EGR ports. You can plug them up no problem, the tube that ran from the smog pump to the back of the heads will have to be left off if you plug them. Mine are plugged with no problems.

Agreed.

The bolts are not necessary unless you are bolting the tube on for the smog pump. If not using that, clean out the carbon filled holes and you will find some threads. The same style inserts that are in the front of the heads can be used to plug them...or a couple bolts for that matter (5/8-11 IIRC) You cannot leave them open -- it will leak.

A spark plug will fit in those holes after you clean them out... as a temporary measure.

This won't mess with my o2 readings, and will have zero effect on my vehicle?
