I dunno. Is it just me, or have my ears grown so knowledgable of mustang exhausts that without seeing what rumbly V8 is coming down the street, I can tell you if it's a stang or not? I noticed this the other day, it's almost as if NO other musclecar can produce the same type of sound. That's all IMO though...just wanted to see if I'm going insane or not, or if someone else has this ear for sound

i can tell if it's a mustang....if it's a 5.0 or 4.6 and what type exhaust it has....so your not crazy

Welcome to the club. I think all true mustang fans have this capability. It has to do with the firing order of the motor and the fact that we are all mustang addicts.

Even Carmaro guys admit that the 5.0 is the best sounding motor EVER.....except if you have SPL exhaust then you sound like a old GMC dumb truck

Aye! Stangs do indeed have a unique sound no matter the exhaust, so long as you have mufflers.

i can tell to, they have that distinct sound no matter what exhaust it has, has anyone ever welded that connector pipe on the H-pipe that connects the two pipes together closed so the exhaust doesnt transfer from one side to another? i always wondered if it would make the car sound an different.

Youre not crazy. I do the same thing. Although, I think that some of the chevy Suburbans w/ flowmasters sound similar to a 5.0 w/ an H-Pipe and Flows.

As me and my wife are driving, I normally spot them first. I call the, and I wish I could remember who to give credit for this quote, "limp peepee tail pipe" cars, "girl cars" and the ones that sound good and have a real motor, "boy cars." She is getting pretty good at it though.

me too...I could tell before I was a Mustang fan. Driving my Trans Am I was one to admit the 5.0's sounded better! As for the Flow thing, all flow's have a similar sound, but their is a unique sound to whatever they're on.

Last night I was driving home and saw a car pull out in front me me a ways up the road. I thought it was an import at first b/c it had underglow neon lights. Once the car got going I smelled the distict smell of un catted exhaust, I thought to my self...hummm must be a 5.0 w/ an uncatted H-pipe. Sure enough he pulls into the gas station and I pass him, it was a 4 eyed Stang ( mid 80's )

Naw you are not alone at all. I can tell if it's a 5.0 or a 4.6... X-pipe or H-pipe. They have similiar sounds but destinctive in their own way. They sound so much betta than the TA's and Z28's. Now on the other hand I was beside this Monte Carlo with a 454 big block...I couldn't even hear my car when he took off. The stangs still have the purest sounding, cleanest, meanest, and strongest exhaust out there. Albeit from the 60's to the present.
