Hello. I am installing an amp in my 1999 Mustang. I am using the factory head unit so I already bought a line converter (to get the required RCA cables). My question is where can I install the remote wire to turn the amp on/off? I checked all of my fuses with a test light and every single one lights up with the key off. I need a fuse that only lights up with the key on and with the key backwards to wire the remote wire to. In other words, I need a wire to tap in to that only is active when the key is on or backwards. I am thinking the cigarette lighter? Can someone please help?

The lighter i believe gives u 12volts at all times. On the back of your factory unit i believe its the black/pink wire. Hook it up to that and test it with the key on and off but im pretty sure thats it.

hey stangdrvr06, thanks a lot for that suggestion. that should make this install much easier. I didn't take the reciever out yet but it is one wire that is black and pink?

There's a fuse under the dash that only has power on key on. I found at least two. I'll get you the fuse number, if they are the same in 99 as they are in 2002.

really you did find 2? Yes every single fuse lit up brightly with the ignition off. Maybe there is some kind of safe mode for the fuse box where they hold power? Anyways, I'm gonna check out that wire on the back of my factory receiver and see if that will work.

I just used my owners manual and found the fuse under the dash that powers the stereo. I then wedged the wire in with the fuse itself. Perhaps not the most secure method but it isn't carrying much current and I haven't had any trouble so far. My amp goes on and off with the ignition and unless you remove the cover to my fuse box you can't tell that I hillbilly rigged it.

Are you serious ? This is just plain BAD. You should at least use something like this:

thanks for all the help everyone. I just bought the din tool and took the factory receiver out. The black/pink wire is perfect. It has power with the ignition on and with the key backwards. It's just like installing the remote turn on wire if you had an aftermarket receiver.

Okay now i am having trouble installing the line converter. On the left rear speaker, there is a gray wire and a brown wire. On the right rear speaker, there is an orange wire and a gray wire. Does anyone know what is positive and what is negative?

LR Speaker +/- gray/lt. blue - tan/yellow
RR Speaker +/- orange/red - brown/pink

For the line out put convertor u will have 2 channels for the rca's to come out of on one side and 4 wires i believe on the other side. ( if im wrong then don't do the next steps) Take the solid color wires twist them together and take the wires with the black stripes. Twist them together. Connect the solid to + . The stripes to - and you're done.
