AN0THER PR0BLEM...please help!!!

For the past week or so i changed my water pump, radiator, spacer/fan, overflow tank, shroud and thermostat. Well, I recieved my fan today and when i installed it, it was hitting the bottom of the shroud . The previous owner cut the bottom half of the original shroud and I never new why untill I seen this today. I think its because I have stock '65 motor mounts. So what I would like to know is, what do I need to do to give the engine a better lift. Will changing the motor mounts from a diffrent year rise my engine a little bit?? ...if so, what year mounts should i get?...PLEASE HELP!!! I want to get it running A.S.A.P!

I had the same problem. There are two ways to fix this. The '65 mounts have two bolts that point straight down through a slot in the mounts. Remove the bottom bolt raise the engine and add washers until the fan doesn't hit. The 2nd way it to buy a set of '66 motor mounts, it raised my engine over an inch, the downside is there's no way to adjust the '66 mount from side to side or up and down. Later I went to a roller motor and now the engine sits too high. Had to trim the top of my shroud to fit. Why does every project spawn two or three more? Mike

I had this problem as well. I ended up trimming a bit of the fan shroud to clearance the fan. I also have a T5 conversion, and I'm unsure if this changes the geometry of the engine at all, so I just went for the trimming the shroud option.

The mounting holes in my fan shroud were slotted, this allowed me to make some adjustment. When first assembled, I had the same problem you describe, but a little playing around and everything fits fine now. If the shroud is plastic as mine is, you could always elongate the holes yourself. A small rat-tail file would make short work of this.
