And I wondered why it was running funny....

Tried driving the car after h/c/i for the first time the other night and all seemed ok. It still wouldn't idle but i had throttle control so i figured i could drive it up the block and back. Well after some bucking and a quick rip into power I brought it back and it was smoking like usual, but thats because of a leak on the back of the lower intake. So I start to tear it down to fix the leak and I find this.

I didn't have a breather system hooked up to the new valve covers so I over pressurized the crankcase so it threw up oil everywhere, but the coolant issue I'm still wondering. I did notice that the fel-pro headgaskets that I'm using both seem to be passenger gaskets because they both say front on the right side of them. Therefore it is blocking the passages on the rear driver and the front passenger. But I'm also suspecting the lower intake gaskets not being sealed completely.

Any one have opinions???

Neither do I, and oil isn't getting thrown everywhere in my motor.

I didn't think Fel-Pro gaskets were side specific...

Correction, they are ROL gaskets. Also, what the deal was with the oil breather was that it was spittin oil out the nipple on the side of the neck so for some dumbass reason i blocked it, so it blocked any escape of pressure. But atleast its fixeble. Today i picked up a breather, a new pcv valve and screen.

Looks like a blown head gasket to me. No other way the coolant would get into the pistons.

Unless you cracked the block, which is unlikely. Clean the lifter valley well and see if there is any cracks. Common place to crack if it is. Clean/check the deck as well.

Good luck man.

Well not all of that coolant was in there from the start, almost all of that is from when i pulled the heads. I knew there was coolant in the cylinder already because it was onto of closed valves. So when I pulled the heads, I didn't drain the coolant so it just dumped into the cylinder. But I am going to thoughly clean the cylinders and valley to make sure everything is ok. After that, new gaskets and try again. Maybe this time with a couple extra ft lbs on the torque specs.

Oh, I just remembered, I forgot to tell you guys that 13 of the 16 rods were loose. They all were set at zero lash, then turned 3/4 and then allen screw locked. I dunno what could have caused that. Maybe it will help figure all of this out if someone knows what is happening with all of this.
