Annoying Noise in Driver Side Front Tire

Hey all,

Question 1:

I had my mechanic take a look at this stupid annoying noise i've been hearing in my tire at all times when i drive, when i hit the brake and when i'm not hitting the brake.

He heard it and says it is because their is rust on the rotor and i should sand it down to get rust off and that should take noise away im hearing.

You guys think this makes any sense.

To get the rust off should i jsut take the tire/wheel off and take a wire brush and start taking off rust with that????

Question 2:

Then today, a new noise started in the same tire. everytime the tire rotates it makes a clicking noise once. click....click.....click.

This noise also happen when applying brakes and not applying brakes.

any ideas on this?

Oh yea, and now so you know the other first noise did'nt go away either. i have both noises not just the 2nd noise.

--1st question, i dont know about taking a wire brush to your rotors but it shouldnt do that much harm, or you can pay your mechanic to turn your rotors again if they have enough thickness to them. that would get the rust of real fast, usualy i have noticed with cheaper rotors (made in china) rust forms alot quicker for some reason
--2nd question, the clicking noise you could be hearing is possably a bearing or bearings going out inside your hub (not good with names- ) when bearings start to go bad, get hot, not enough lubercation they will fry and start ticking while you drive the car.

2nd question... what bearings exactly would i need to buy replacements of?

yup wheel bearings, if you still have the 4 lug set-up i think there are 2 bearings inside the rotor. 1 small and 1 big, i dont think they are that expensive but if you replace them on 1 side i recomend doing it to the other side also. You can go to your local parts store and get them. (if you do this by youself dont forget to pack them with wheel bearing greese)

Does not sound like much of a mechanic.
Bearings which should have been easy to diagnose or even a loose caliper bolts or a pad moving back and forth. It could even be the lower ball joint or the sway bar link. Jack up the car with a jack stand under it and let the strut/wheel drop to full length and start pulling and rotating it should be a easy find.

Honestly, the mechanic could'nt even hear it that much, either way what do you mean strut/wheel drop to full length?????????

I need one wheel bearing inner and one bearing outer???

Also can i use the wire brush on the rotor when its still on the car?

that ticking noise you hear on the tire could be a nail in the tire? does it get faster with speed? look for a rock or nail in the tire. as for the first noise....what kind of noise is it? rotors rust very often on cars that sit...and its usually just surface rust...which comes off as soon as you hit the brakes. go check out a car dealer....most of their cars will have surface rust on the rotors. wheel bearing wont make a clicking noise either...it will be a whurring noise if that makes any sense. and it will get louder as the speed increases.

most importantly before anyone goes diagnosing anything we need to know what kind of noise it is.

The clicking noise seems to be gone today (Question 2)

I pulled off tire and everything looks good. I cleaned off any rust on the rotor i could and slapped the tire back on and the same damn noise.

The noise is like sounds like something is rubbing at all times almost like that type noise. Itt's like you hear it every time the tire rotates like its on the whole entire thing. its not just like one noise. it continues as the tire moves.

Sounds like a small stone trapped in the brake caliper.

It's not i checked it all out when i took off the tire today.

I'm bringing it to my mechanic on tuesday night, to take a really good look at it.

I can hear it all almost all speeds even over my exhaust.

You can hear it more with the windows up, when you put the windows down you don't hear it really that much. You can still hear it just nowhere near u can with windows up for some odd reason.

I had the same problem on my camaro once and it turned out there was piece of rope in there that was making noise.

My fronts made a noise from the clips that hold the outermost brake pad on to the caliper was rubbing inside of my wheel. I had to file/cut them down...

Would you happen to have a pic of this part you had to cut down?

I can even hear the one noise when i turn the wheel by hand when jacked up.

it could possibly be the wheel bearings. put the car on jack stands in the front and lift up on the tire and try to wiggle it around. if the wheel bearings are shot you will be able to tell.

MY MECHANIC SAID ITS MY BRAKE PADS! COULD IT BE MY BRAKES PADS WHEN THE NOISE IS EVEN HAPPENING WHEN IM NOT HITTIGN THE BRAKES ALSO.
