1964 1/2 Mustang has an anoying rattle on the right rear when hitting hard bump. I checked all the likely suspects: exhaust, emergency cables etc. My questions is can a bad shock absorber cause this rattle? any other tips?
The noise is a "klunking" sound when going over a hard bump. Is this the sign of a broken shock. I checked and the shock is not loose. It's on the right rear side.
Take the bottom of the shock loose and cycle it by hand to make sure its in good working order. If its toast you will know real quick when you have no resistance in either direction. It could be the muffler/exhaust hitting the frame or leaf springs if it is mounted close to them.
