Sounds like a metallic noise from under the valve covers,
Sounds more drivers side,

At first I thought obvious, "header leak"
But Its not that, I have a engine stethoscope and can hear its more towards the valvetrain,

Now I didnt shim my Roller rockers when I put them on,
I installed AFR 165 Heads, Ford Racing Harderned pushrods (Stock length) and other stuff,
Nothign that would mess the valve geometry up,

But This noise is driving me nuts, Like I cant enjoy the car as I know somethings up,
I checked my timing, wasnt that (just out of interest whats a good timing for my setup? 93 Octane always)
So all thats left is the roller rockers,

Now I lost my shim kit I got when I got these rockers So none of them are shimmed
Ther pedestal Mount, and torques to correct spec, But upon inspection of them today before I realised I lost my shims I can move a few from side to side a little bit, Ones thats not being pushed upon, Thats normal right?

Please lend me some help on this one,
Thanks guys
Jamie

maybe the rockers or a rocker is hitting the valve cover?

Agree, with 1.72s, that the most likely problem. What brand are they?... Cranes are relatively small, but FMS is a bit bulkier. Did you grind all the webbing from the valve cover before installing it with those rockers?... Did you remove all the baffling, etc?...

I don't see any info on your cam?... Did you use the valve base plates (the little rails or whatever, that both intake and exhaust rockers sit on?), or whatever they're called from your stock pedestal rockers with the AFRs?... If you're missing those, that's the problem... But I'm not sure the car would even run without them in place, hehe...

If not, I hope it's not a lifter, for your sake to reduce all that rework...

Yes the Baffle has been ground,
its not hitting the valve cover,

I couldnt see how it would be the lifters,
they were fine beforehand and I didnt touch them at all during the swap

Re-read what I wrote before... I edited it some... sorry about that...

Also, if your lifters drained during your install, they may simply be dry. If you haven't ran the car much after starting it up, they're going to rattle a little unless you left them soaking in oil during the install...

If you haven't let it run much, disconnect the coil wire, and turn the car over for 5 seconds or so at a time to let the system pump up with oil. Those lifters will pump up eventually if that's the problem.

I had a GM quad 4 not pump up for about 5 minutes after startup... I was about to crap my pants, but it eventually got lubricated and ran very smoothly...

Just out of curiosity, what do you have your timing set at with the spout connector out?

Is this ticking noise all the time, or does it only do it under load while driving?

Seems to be ticking all the time,
Timing set at 12* BTDC,

I have run the car, Around the block etc etc around town,
It seems to run ok, Just this friggin noise,
Its real quiet too, But I can notice it and its driving me nuts,

And I dont have the shims to do my roller rockers if thats the problem,

Again, what cam combo and pushrods?... I don't think that regular Cobra 1.72 rockers and a stock cam are even going to have to be shimmed with a pedestal mount setup, but that's me... I ran that setup except for Crane 1.7 rockers for a long time before I added the Crane 2031 cam...

I am not sure if you would need the shims, but try bumping your timing down to 10 degrees and see if that gets you anywhere. I have a shim kit for my rockers that I did not use if you need some. I can dig them out for you if needed... provided they will work for you.

Stock cam,
and These Rockers were on my GT-40 Iron heads up until the weekend with no shims at all,
Just bolted down and go,

I didnt think I needed to shim them either, However this noise is annoying me,

Tim might have to take you up on that offer

my cobra 1.7 pedestal mount rockers were always noisy I hated them. My 1.72 stud mount rockers are quiet as can be.

Can you convert your heads to stud mount rockers?

I actually have a FMS 1.72 Stud mount set too,
Could I do anything with them?

And Shawn did your rollers make the same noise as Im describing?

And why would they make this noise all of a sudden if they were totally quiet before?
