another cam question...

ok, ive been reading past threads about picking a cam...and none of them seem to fit my car. i have a mild 289. 9.2:1 comp. flattop pistons, stock heads. small cam. rpm intake. 600 edel carb. hooker long tubes. 3.55 gears and in the process of doing a t5 swap in the next week.

so from this...i should probably get the rest of the rpm package since its going to be a road race daily driver type of car...not all drag, but i dont want to spend every penny i have on heads right now..ill do them at a later time, just not now. so the question is...

should i go with the RPM cam?(or a different manf w/ similar specs). i like a meaty sounding cam but i know im limited on how far i can go

I also have a RPM cam i'll sell ya ..............But i had the whole package, and i really recommend raising the compression if you get the heads,the 60cc chambers lower it a bit,to my understanding its basically a 351 head.The cam has a rough idle,the lift is enough to have valve interference problems if your carfeful.Aslo, my heads were some of the first ones(9 years old),so the springs were weak and would float the valves, so maybe they changed that by now

I'd leave it as is until you upgrade the heads, because a good cam for the current combo won't be that great for a motor with good heads. Stay away from the aincient Edelbrock cams!

Go with something similar to the 270H. It is a good cam, creates good power, and streetability.

is it worth it to have my heads ported? i got an estimate of around 300 bucks.

I have some 351W DO0E heads that might work well for you. A valve job and clean up the ports would be needed.
