Another Driveshaft Question

7 tanks! Wow that's a whole lot of fish.

Earlier in this thread I believe Hissin50 mentioned that the FMS Aluminum shaft is a bit larger in diameter than stock. Can anyone confirm this and will it interfere with a stock exhaust system? thanks!!

Freaking gears!!!!!! Now I find out I have gears. Oh well, just means I don't have to get a set now. I'm thinking they we're probably installed improperly (incorrect backlash etc. not to sure, don't know to much about gears). could be the culprit of my problem.

4dStang, do you think an improperly installed set of gears could have led to the u-joints being worn prematurely?

Again, I'm not to familiar with gearing. Thanks!!!

BTW I used to have a couple tanks of South American Cichlids. :flag:

An improperly set of gears would have whined. They are either too close or too far away from the pinion gear if they whine. That is it. There just can't be any vibration, or cause for DS problems from gears. Thats my opinion. I just don't see how it would be possible. If you have never had any gear problems in the past from the gears, you will never have problems from gears. Once they are set, they are set. You said you were missing a bolt on the DS that meets the diff didn't you? Get a new bolt, put some BLUE thread lock on ALL the bolts and try again. I think You will be ok!

agreed - gears whine if the backlash is off. but generally no vibes.

not sure about the shop doing a joint (what others have said sounds good to me). i R/R old and new ones with the shaft on the car.

good luck.

I just went out and bought a FMS Aluminum driveshaft at the dealer along with a new driveshaft bolts.

I noticed the shaft had a set of yellow dots. I'm sure they have something to do with the indexing/installation. Does the shaft go on only one way or are there marks I have to follow??

I'll try putting it on today or tomorrow once I can get a confirmation. Thanks in advance!!
