I picked up a set of heads recently that I was lead to believe were Trick-Flows, and after a quick look I thought they were some knock-offs because theres no logo anywhere on 'em, but after a closer look I think they may be the real deal. They came with Ferrea valves, so either theyre true TFS heads, or someone spent good money on some junk heads. If you look carefully at my picture and the one on the Trick-Flow website, the stamped number in the exhaust side seems to match.
Can anyone positively identify these?

TFS has the twisted wedge design patented IIRC so there should not be any knock-offs and to be honest i've never seen or even heard of a knock off for them. fairly certain that these are the real deal

X2, I dont think I've heard of any knockoffs of those.

Did TFS ever make heads with no logo? Prototypes?
Call them! THey aregreat peopleto deal with. THey will be able to tell you if they are TFS or not. Better, email the pictures to them first.

They look very similar to my TW's IIRC.

I called TFS and verified that these are indeed real Trick Flow heads. 170cc intake port, 61cc chamber, 2.02int, 1.60exh. He said that they are one of their first heads, probably over 10 years, before they started putting logos or anything on them. Sweet!

Now, since they are EARLY TFS heads, you need to determine if the valve guides have been replaced, and/or if they need replaced. THere was a problem with EARLY TFS heads. THis "problem" is sometimes applied to newer heads when it should not be. THey fixed the problem a long time ago. I'm sure someone else will have the exact dates and info on the TFS valve guide problem.
THat's pretty cool, sounds ike a great find.

Definitely have the guides checked. I had one of the first sets of heads and sent them back 2-3 times for repair. They were great to work with and wanted to help figure out the problem everyone was having. I even have a set sitting around for a future project or my ranger.

I only paid $100 for em, but it dropped a valve and munched a cylinder. For $50 I had the cylinder welded, now itll need 2 seats and probably 3 guides, plus obviously 2 valves, a spring cup, and possibly a spring. Theyre missing a retainer and a bunch of locks too, but I have some extras from another project that match. I dont think theres any way around the cost of guides and seats, but I can cut the seats myself once theyre in, and I think I can get a friend to mill em (because of the welded chamber) for next to nothing. Since Im not on any kind of timeline I can probly find the little bits and pieces I need for next to nothing. Im hoping to be into these heads for less than $300 all said and done, although probly closer to $400.

If I rememer right, the early guides will wear prematurly. THey were not hard enough metal? Not sure. So you would need to replace all the guides if you want them to be reliable and last a long time-again-IF it does have the old style guides that need to be replaced. If it already has the new style guides than it's fine. CHeck with TFS again. Or run what ya got and replace them later on down the road (if it needs them )
