over spring break i installed afr heads, an fti cam, a pioneer balancer, comp pro mag 1.6 rockers, and some other stuff. this was my first time getting that deep into the motor, and i ran into several problems, but when it was time to turn the key, she started. i was pretty happy.
things aren't perfect, though. i didn't have a timing light around when i finished, so i couldn't get it perfect. also, my fuel pressure gauge adapter got delayed in shipping (i couldn't find one within a 50 mile radius), so i couldn't adjust the fuel pressure properly.
the car won't idle. it runs fine if it is kept above 1200 or so rpm. it only starts under wide open throttle, too. i took it for a drive, and it died a couple times. once, it died and wouldn't start for about 10 minutes. i'm told the starting problems probably mean the timing is off, which it most likely is. i think once i'm back home for summer and i get the fuel pressure and timing adjusted, it will run well. do you think this will fix my idle problem, too? i'm planning on getting a tweecer in any case.
i was amazed how easily the pioneer balancer went on. after reading about people having lots of trouble and even having to put there balancers in the oven to get them on, mine slid on with almost no effort. it took a matter of seconds.
my power locks don't work after the project, and when i hit the unlock button, my gauge lights turn on. could a bad ground cause this? i noticed i had a ground wire hanging when i changed the oil after the cam break-in. the interior light and the clock don't work, either. i would assume it's a fuse, but the whole gauge lights turning on by hitting the unlock button makes me think otherwise.
too bad i couldn't get a real feel for the new power i should have because of my timing and fuel issues. i finished at 8:30 sunday night and flew back to school monday morning at 9:35. i can't wait to get back home this summer!!
