3rd headswap or blower this time?

Hello to all, Its been years since Ive been out of the game.... NOT "THEGAME", as in SD Wheeler, and old friend of mine that some of you all know. But Im welcome to be back

Got a used 97 gt today. and am deciding what to do, headswap, or blower....

Now mind you, Ive done 3 headswaps in my old 98 (blew two motors from bad cam setup and spray), ran pretty stout numbers untuned with shorties and was the first to run regrind cams in any 2v car in the nation, so you could say I know a thing or two about the headswap. I dont need a lesson on it.

However, I feel slightly ignorant to some of the new technology to the 2v's Back then, the well tuned cars with Lt's, good port job, and cams were running 290-330rwhp, with craig from down here in houston having the highest hp at around 330rwhp I believe.

To the point, Im not looking to build a street beast, but back then swapping 2v heads, porting them, adding cams (reground bc there was no billets so we had to use lash caps under the lifters...ehhh) was not all that exciting. What numbers are the 2v's putting out, how much are reground cams, and what numer are you blower guys with non pi heads putting out, if any of you still exist. What route would you go

Thanks for any input..
Mig

thanks for the reply..... Just a quick question though, the ports are different on the PI heads than the non pi ones, whats the solution?

What year GT you have? A 99+ GT will put down 280-300hp with bolt-ons and cams with no headwork. I'm not too sure about numbers a non-pi car can put down, but I'd assume it would be around the same if you did a PI swap, possibly a bit more power due to higher compression. PI's with a blower put down anywhere from 350-450 hp, depending on other mods/bolt-ons, tune, boost, etc...

thanks for all the help guys, dont need any info on the headswap, been down that road a 7 years ago, 3 times, and am fully informed on compression issues, just wanted to know numbers and aftermarket cam issues, and more than once...... btw, I was in the houston FRPP or "SVO, what it used to be called", store here in houston picking up an x pipe and pullies today, and noticed an aftermarket intake in chrome, did about 5 min googlin it and found only bs performance shop info and dynos..... I was in a rush and the guy was not all that helpful or informative. He didn't know if it could be ported, and I had to tell the guy that it only fits PI cars because of the intake port shape, or maybe Im wrong....anybody have any info on this intake?

Drop Top Poney, "and don't ever mention that Wheeler is your friend...that alone could get you banned "

------ you have nothing to worry about.... I was the first guy, the 17 year old kid with the 1st headswap on this site and the first car ever built by Shannon and DTA. I knew him personally and really liked the guy. He stiffed me on a used 962v motor after he skipped town from baytown(houston area) and moved up to dallas. Long story short, I drove 10 hours round trip on a college budget to pick up a shortblock that was blown and had to be re built. Never knew if he knew the condition of the motor, but I have spent time at his house, business, and family and know him better than most. The whole situation was unfortunate, and Im in the same boat of people that got hosed, and I was a kid with no money then too... Regardless, the guy could build a 2v, and is a great guy to be around in person regardless of what others say. (no flames needed, I know the hatred towards Shannon and it is well deserved)

I would get the entire PI swap first. Then next year go for a blower. The superchrager will up the power substantially. But the H/C/I from the 99+ cars will improve power N/A and then you have the good parts installed already before you do the blower install

I vote for BOTH!!
